This scholarship fund will recognize scholastic achievement, encourage continued progress, and provide assistance to students in financing their education in the School of Medicine. Edward L. Klarman, M.D. writes the following to the recipients of this scholarship: When I graduated from high school in Detroit, I certainly knew I was going on to college. The only question was which college. And the only answer was Wayne State University. The advantage for me was that I could continue to live at home and take the bus down to the campus. For my family, it made tremendous economic sense. The same considerations applied when it came to medical school. Going to Wayne meant that I was still able to live at home and take a bus or car pool with classmates to school AND get a great education at the same time. For me, medicine has been a wonderful and satisfying profession. And I was fortunate that my career was financially rewarding as well, which allows me to help deserving medical students like you with this scholarship assistance. I hope that your career will prove equally fulfilling and that some day you will be in a position to give back to our medical school and help others to continue a legacy of educational excellence.
