President Dave Purvis called the meeting to order at 7:02 PM. There were 20 members and guests present. Lois Bouford motioned to approve the June minutes. Lynn Gross seconded the motion. The June 6, 2016 minutes were approved as submitted. Vice President s Report The Marching Band used the concessions stand on Saturday (July 30) for a big event. They used some of our product but left more than they used so we have additional stock. We may have a 7 on 7 rugby event on August 6 th. We will need workers from 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Please sign up on the website. We re also planning for a big football event on August 18 th and will need lots of workers. We received a check from Steelhouse for $107 from the June dine in fundraiser. These are easy and fun ways to generate revenue. We are looking for someone to lead the charge in setting up more this school year. Treasurer s Report Susan Nord reported that July financials closed yesterday. Reports will be available in the September membership meeting. The only change since our June meeting is a $3638.50 check for spirit wear purchased in July. Secretary Report Amy DeLong Schooldude is down so thank you to Bob Dowd for getting us in the TACC tonight. The September meeting will be booked manually and the remainder of the year will go in when the system is back up. Plan for 2016-17 meetings in the TACC Room unless notified. Spirit Wear Dave Purvis said Dana Dionisio is placing an order for Fall spirit items. She is working with Dana Cowper to get items prepped for our first events as well as the online offerings. Concessions Scott Aurand is working on getting estimates for power washing the concession stand awning. This will allow us to avoid replacing it for a while. Thank you to those who came to help power wash the coolers and equipment last month. Lead training Scott is planning to have this year s first training done by August 24 th. Page 1

President s Report Dave Purvis reviewed the updated grants for this year and highlighted the benefit of being a lead this year. Leads can earn an additional $175 after earning their first Underclassmen Grant. The last health inspection in June went very well. No issues reported. Membership Lynn Gross thanked Amy DeLong for drafting the introduction letter that will be included with student registration packets. Student Registration is August 23 and 24 and is our next membership related activity. TAAB recognizes that Fall registration is a key time to sell TAAB benefits to new Freshman parents. o We have 2 volunteers so far, and will need more on the 24 th which is the bigger day with incoming Freshmen and Sophomores. The Fall sports meeting is August 16 th with Bob Dowd. We will have a TAAB table and signage there too. Lynn is working on tri-folds for handouts and additional recruiting. Football has their parent meeting this Friday, August 5 th. Scott offered to share materials with families in attendance there as well. Grants and Scholarships Kim Doyle reported that she needs receipts for money granted at the end of the 2015-16 school year in order to get checks issued. Cancelled checks are okay to submit but having coaches write receipts is preferred and encouraged. Families have until April 2017 to use their grants issued at the end of 2016. Kim is continuing to work on the database with Tim Shoales and has an Athens alum majoring in computer science working on point/meeting reports and distribution ideas for earners. They are not able to share the database to split work but this is a goal of their committee. Alumni Report Dave Purvis reviewed the need to fill this position. Events like the VIP Tent are ideal for reaching out to get former Red Hawks back on campus and see what s new. Dave would like our website to be the place to go to find stats about Hawks sports history which will drive them to our information in general. Public Relations Dave Purvis commended Kate Goodin-Smith again. Two people have shown interest in filling this position. Stacy Miletti and Linda Purvis are social media gurus and will do a good job getting the word out about our activities. He will talk with them about sharing the role this year. Website Matt Parks reported that the website is still up and running. He s started posting Fall events. More to come as information comes in. Page 2

Athletic Director Bob Dowd reviewed the building updates. So far, the project is running on time. HVAC has all been replaced, including more efficient boilers and the pool is getting new heaters. It will be closed the first week of school and swim practice will be held at Troy High School. The front parking lot was repaved also. This includes a more prominent front entrance with new steps leading to the door by the main office. Concessions has a new transformer that went in today. Football playoffs are scheduled here for November 19 th. New breaker boxes will go in immediately after that providing more power to run our equipment simultaneously instead of swapping out what s plugged in. Additional building improvements include updated student bathrooms, new lighting in the gym and a lot of things you won t see improving the building mechanics. The staff and students will feel the difference and will have to live through the changes as they figure out how to adjust temperatures throughout the building. The start of the sports season always means great optimism. We all start with no losses. The Fall sports programs are already working very hard. Officially, football starts Mon August 8 th and everyone else starts the 10 th. Coach updates o Mrs. Clark has started as the new Varsity cheer coach. o Mr. Schoonover starts as the new JV girls golf coach. Soccer s first home game is August 30 adding another event to our volunteer schedule. Please sign up. Grant requests from coaches: Coach Hepner submitted a request for $1599 to fund their subscription to Huddle, a program that breaks down plays to watch game film online. This request impacts 125 students. Dowd added that it s a great tool for seniors to use for college recruiting. It s used across Oakland County and other teams at AHS use it as well. Huddle is cheaper than the Crossover program that basketball uses. Dave Purvis asked if we can get a license for the school to share across Athens teams. Susan Nord will get details about package pricing. This request came in after our budget review so there is no line item for it. We can allocate $1000 out of Fall late requests, use the $100 already budgeted for football and take the rest out of encumbered funds. Patty Aurand made a motion to approve the request for $1599 for football with the contingency that TAAB and/or the coaches look into expanding our licensing to include soccer, lacrosse and the girls teams as well. Sam Masiasz seconded the motion and it was approved as amended. Page 3

Old business New Business Susan Nord reviewed the 2016-17 attached budget in detail. Once again, we encourage coaches to get their requests in to us by Spring for consideration. Otherwise, we allocate $100 per team. Patricia Bouey made a motion to accept the 2016-17 budget as submitted. Gordon Filips seconded. Motion passed as written. Band boosters are tremendously pleased with the relationship we have with them and asked Bob Dowd to share that with our membership. They have a new Band Director Adam Cable, AHS alum. Dave Purvis reviewed the new requirement to attend 2 meetings/school year vs one per semester. Courtney Looser sent a thank you card for receiving a senior scholarship. Norma Pinder sent a note for the generous donation to Team Troy Boosters that will be used for a Special Olympics swim team from Athens. Gordon Filips motioned to adjourn, Lois Bouford seconded. The meeting was adjourned at 8:04 PM. Page 4
