YOUR GUIDE TO LEHMAN COLLEGE INTRAMURALS The Lehman Intramural Program is designed to provide an opportunity for experiential learning for the entire student body through participation in organized activities. We strive to encourage lifelong recreation skills, to integrate participants socially in an athletic setting, and to promote sportsmanship and fair play among the students participating in these activities. To reach our goal, Lehman offers a variety of sports to choose from. Anyone is allowed to play and there is no cost to have a team. Intramurals is a way to relieve stress acquired from hours of studying and planning of events. It is also a great way for students to get to know each other on a personal level. If meetings are usually pretty formal then there isn t much time to tell jokes or stories. The objective of intramurals is to simply have fun. The great thing about intramurals is that the score doesn t matter. As long as people can have a positive attitude, everything will go smoothly. Being involved in intramurals helps create a well rounded atmosphere that will make people want to keep coming back. Business gets done, community service is provided, and members make new friends and enjoy each other s company. There are prizes that will be given away to the championship teams and individuals, and, in that case, students may get competitive. The important thing to remember is that everybody is competing in intramurals because they want to have fun, and winning is not everything. The objective of any person joining intramurals should be to have fun, make new friends, and learn team concepts and sportsmanship.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS What are Intramural Sports? Intramural are competitive, yet fun individual and team sports. This is a great way to meet new friends! Can I sign up for more than just one intramural activity? Since there are three intramural sports taking place at the same time on all three days of intramural activities, an individual can compete in as many as three intramural sports per semester. How long does the season last? Each intramural sport has its own schedule, and each team or individual (depending on if it is an individual sport such as 8-ball, table tennis, etc.) will be assigned a time in which their game will be played. Those looking for updated intramural information can access Lehman s intramural page at www.lehmanathletics.com Where are the games played? All Intramural Sports are played at the APEX Complex, at the South Field, and at the student life building.
How does the playoff system work? For team sports, most teams will be guaranteed a playoff spot, as the teams will be seeded according to their place in the standings. For individual sports, most competitors will be guaranteed playoff spots as well, and the playoffs take on the same protocol as in team sports. Giving each intramural team/ competitor a chance to compete in the playoffs gives students the motivation to play the whole season and compete for a prize following the regular season. What Do I get for competing? Every person that participates for the entire season, including the playoffs, will receive a bag and t-shirt courtesy of the Lehman College intramural coordinators. In addition, all teams and individuals who win a championship will take home a complementary championship medallion!
