Welcome, Previous Minutes Discussion, and Roll Call OLD 1. None NEW 1. Educational Presentation: Advanced Funeral Planning The NVP endeavors to schedule a 45 minute educational presentation on topics pertaining to end of life care for veterans. Rick Missell asked the group if there were corrections to the previous meeting minutes. None were noted. Minutes were approved and roll call was completed. Jennifer Eurek introduced Kimberly Beedle from Butherus, Maser & Love. She is an Amy veteran who now works in funeral planning in Lincoln. Kimberly thanked the group for allowing her to present today. Kimberly proceeded to discuss the need to complete advanced funeral planning. She described this type of planning as a gift to your loved ones. She listed many benefits of funeral planning including: Lower cost when you pay in advance Less stress on family Less stress on you Funeral is as you would want Funeral planning appointments are free alized to your desires Kimberly also stated the importance of telling your family about funeral plans in advance and where important documents are located. l Additionally, Kimberly stated that funeral plans can be transferred from one area of the country to another. Questions included what was the average number of death certificates required by families? were needed. Also, Kim was asked about the average cost of a funeral. She stated that for cremation it is currently 4,000 to 6, 000 and for a traditional casketed funeral it is 10,000 to 14,000. Kimberly reviewed numerous documents that she often uses with her clients. She stated that we had her permission to use these documents for our own personal funeral planning or with the Veterans we service. Kimberly stated that the group was welcome to contact her after the meeting if they had additional questions. Jennifer Eurek and Rick Missell thanked Kimberly for her presentation. Jennifer stated that she will post the documents that Kimberly provided on the NVP website. The website is: www.nehospice.org 2. Discussion Items HVP brochures, Lapel pin stories, and VA 101 updates 2. Updates During each meeting, time is allocated for members to give updates and information on activities in their organization. 1. HVP brochures: Jennifer asked everyone to bring their extra HVP brochures to our annual meeting. She will redistribute them to those organizations requiring more. If your organization needs these brochures now, please contact Jennifer or Rick to request more. 2. Lapel pin stories: Jennifer asked the group if presenting the lapel pins to Veterans receiving hospice services was proving to be beneficial. The group overwhelming agreed that the pin ceremonies had a positive impact. Jennifer asked if everyone who has a story regarding the lapel pins would email the information to her. She would like to compile the stories for future use. Jennifer s email is Jennifer@nehospice.org. 3. VA 101: Jennifer asked for a volunteer to update the VA 101 information package. She noted that some of the contact information has changed. 1. We Honor Veterans Campaign: Jennifer announced that several area hospices have achieved level one in the campaign including: Health Connect at Home of Lincoln, Hospice of Tabitha, and Pathways to Compassion in Lincoln. Several more agencies are at the recruit level including Alegent Hospice of Omaha, AseraCare Lincoln, AseraCare Kearney, AseraCare Omaha, Central Plains Hospice in Cozad, Horizon Hospice in Lincoln, Hospice Community Care in Bring extra HVP brochures to the October 21, 2011 NVP meeting in Lincoln for redistribution. Send requests for more brochures to Rick Missell or Jennifer Eurek. Send short stories about the lapel pins to Jennifer Eurek. Update the VA 101 information. 3. Work Group Discussion HVP has replaced the work formerly completed by subcommittees with work groups. Lincoln, Pathways to Compassion in Omaha, and St. Joseph Villa in Omaha. 2. Fall Workshop and annual meeting: Amy Rosauer updated the group on the plans for the annual fall NVP meeting. She informed the group that the conference will be held in the Lincoln VA auditorium on October 21, 2011. The education portion begins at 9 am and will be divided into four sessions: Artificial Nutrition and Hydration No Place for Dying: Hospitals and the Ideology of Rescue QPR: Suicide Prevention Training The Role of the Witness in the Dying Situation Registration cost is 35 dollars Registration forms will be sent out at the end of August 3. Other Updates: Omaha: Representatives of the Hospice of Southwest Iowa announced that their organization is at the recruit level for the We Honor Veterans campaign and that their first training we be conducted on August 3, 2011. Pathways to Compassion representatives stated that their organization with conduct the second segment of the Wounded Warrior training August 3, 2011 and that the volunteer training will be conducted at the end of August. Grand Island: No updates reported. Phone: No updates reported. 1. November hospice booth workgroup: Jennifer asked for volunteers for a workgroup on developing plans for the November hospice booths. Volunteers included Joni Vallier, Debra, Colleen Nielsen, Adrienne Redwine, and Shane Van Dorin. Jennifer will contact the volunteers in the beginning of September. 2. Development of workgroups: Jennifer asked if there were other workgroups that needed to be formed at this point. None were noted. 4. Issues/Concerns Jennifer asked if there were any questions or concerns that need to be addressed. Kelly Hastings from the Omaha VA asked if there were any specific veteran centered Please inform Rick Missell or Jennifer Eurek if you wish to volunteer for work groups for the November hospice booths. 5. Future Meetings NVP meetings occur every other month on the second Tuesday of the month at 10am. bereavement programs. None were noted. However, all hospices can provide general bereavement counseling. TJ Seward from AseraCare Hospice volunteered to send local bereavement counseling sessions to Jennifer Eurek for distribution. It was decided to not place this on the web site because the information changes so frequently. The meetings for 2011 are scheduled for the following dates: 1. October 21, 2011- Educational presentations and Annual Meeting in Lincoln Auditorium 2.
