Merriam Park Community Center 651-645-7424 West 7th Community Center 651-298-5493 keystoneservices.org Key for Event Locations: This symbol means events are held at Merriam Park Community Center. This symbol means events are held at West 7th Community Center. Grant Provides Opportunity to Offer New Technology for Seniors Have you seen the changes to the senior lounges at both sites? We have made some technology updates in our lounges because of a generous grant from Charter Communications. We have added computer labs to each lounge, and a big-screen television to the West 7th lounge. We have purchased laptop computers and an ipad that will be available for classes for our participants. We have also improved our digital infrastructure so we can offer more technology based classes and activities in the future. This grant and the equipment allows us to expand our Cyber Seniors program so that we can reach more students and now offer it at both sites. It also allows for a permanent computer lab in each lounge. Movie viewing and programs like TED-talks and sing-a-longs are just a few of the wonderful new activities we will implement with the new equipment. Technology allows us to learn and connect with others in so many fascinating ways but it can be overwhelming if you aren t familiar with it. With the new equipment Keystone can provide you access to these opportunities along with training and guidance. If learning how to access Facebook, Skype, YouTube, email, or texting intrigue you, we invite you to sign up for one of our upcoming computer classes. The computers will be publicly available very soon. They will be available on a first-come, first-served basis when the lounge is not busy with a program. We ask that you limit your time on them to 1-hour if someone else is waiting to use it. More details on using the computers will be available in the computer labs. If you have thoughts or suggestions for future classes or equipment needs, please tell us. This is your space and we want you to enjoy it! Your Opinion Matters! Having quality programs is important to everything we do at Keystone. Equally important is giving you a chance to tell us how we are doing. We often ask you to participate in assessments and surveys which help us measure our success and identify areas for improvement. Our funders care about these evaluation results but we also want to design programs that reflect the needs and interests of our community. In the next edition of Thriving Times, we look forward to sharing some of evaluationrelated findings and plans with you. Stay tuned! Welcome Back, Jill! We are delighted to welcome back our Fit and Fabulous instructor, Jill Gilfillan. Jill has taught our classes in the past, but took a short hiatus in order to gain even more teaching credentials for us! Jill will be teaching at both W7th and Merriam Park on Mondays and Wednesdays. Fridays exercise class will be a video until further notice. We hope you will come check out this vibrant and inclusive exercise group. Jill works hard to adapt everything to meet everyone s needs and abilities, so no matter what your activity level is currently, Jill will accommodate for you. We also are a Silver and Fit certified facility. If your medical insurance covers that plan, your class cost may be greatly reduced. Inquire at the front desk to find out more details. DO YOU KNOW IF YOU QUALIFY FOR SNAP? SNAP is the Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program that was formally known as food stamps. It is a federal program that comes in the form of a debit card that can be used to buy food at grocery stores, convenience stores and some farmer s markets and co-op food programs (including Fare for All). People of all ages can use SNAP. Eligibility is determined by your family size, your income, citizenship status, and certain other expenses. If you receive Supplemental Security Income (SSI), General Assistance (GA), or Minnesota Supplemental Aid (MSA) please call the food helpline 1-888-711-1151 to find out where to apply for SNAP. Otherwise, look at the income guidelines to see if you qualify. If you have questions or need help applying for SNAP, contact one of our senior program social workers.
