No. 6 Alcorn State No. 10 Bowie State Jackson State Morehouse Tuskegee Fort Valley State Southern BCSP No. 6 ALCORN STATE got 311 passing yards and two touchdowns and 74 rushing yards and a score from QB Noah Johnson (22 of 33) as they ran past Texas Southern, 27-15. The Braves (2-1, 1-0 SWAC E) scored all their 27 points in the first half and led 27-0 at the break. Six-five WR Raidarius Anderson had a monster game with eight receptions for 168 yards (21.0 ypc.) including an 8-yard first-quarter TD catch. Johnson also connected with Chris Blair on a 28-yard score and scored on a 1-yard run. Johnson had 385 yards of total offense, 322 in the first half. Quarterback Amir Hall threw for 352 yards and two scores and ran for 95 and two more as BCSP No. 10 BOWIE STATE held on to knock off McKendree, 47-41. The Bulldogs (2-1, 0-0 CIAA N) built a 35-13 lead on the strength of four rushing TDs, one from Hall of 6 yards, and a Hall TD pass to Montez Clay to open the scoring. After opening the third quarter with another Hall TD toss, 6 yards to Daryl Jasper, to go up 41-13, McKendree scored 28 points only interrupted by a 65-yard TD run by Hall. McKendree scored with no time left for the final 47-41 margin. Hall was 41 of 52 passing and totalled 447 yards of total offense. JACKSON STATE got four field goals from Christian Jacquemin, the last early in the fourth quarter that allowed the Tigers escape with an 18-16 win over Florida A&M in Tallahassee. JSU (1-1) had to survive two FAMU fourth-quarter drives to pull out the win, blocking a Yahia Ali 27-yard field goal attempt with 9 minutes left and stopping the Rattlers (1-2, 0-0 MEAC) on the JSU 4 as time expired. The see-saw contest saw FAMU lead 7-6 at the half. Jacquemin s 43-yard third-quarter field goal gave JSU a 9-7 lead. FAMU (1-2) went back on top 14-9 as FAMU QB Ryan Stanley hit Xavier Smith with a 20-yard score 90 seconds later. JSU scored its only touchdown of the day on QB Derrick Ponder s 6-yard pass to Ra Melk Wallace to lead 15-14 but FAMU s Tyler Woodley returned the blocked PAT 98 yards to put FAMU up 16-15 with 5:22 left in the third period. Ponder was 25 of 41 for 270 yards with one pick. Stanley was 26 of 37 for 340 yards with WR Chad Hunter pulling in 8 passes for 117 yards. Jacquemin s field goals covered 42, 26, 43 and 44 yards. MOREHOUSE gave up an early touchdown and then scored 34 straight points to pull away from Central State and post a 41-14 win. The undefeated Maroon Tigers (3-0, 1-0 SIAC) got three TDs from RB Santo Dunn, on 3- and 2-yard TD runs in the first half and an 89-yard kickoff return TD to open the third quarter. QB Michael Sims (23-36-0, 227 yards) had a 13-yard third quarter TD run and hooked up with Amyr Smith (6 rec., 85 yards) on a 24-yard scoring pass to end the scoring. SIAC) but gave up a 55-yard fourth quarter TD pass that allowed the Golden Tigers to escape with a 24-17 win. Breaking from a 10-10 halftime tie, CAU scored on a 42-yard fumble recovery by Kenneth Morgan to go up 17-10 early in the fourth quarter. Tuskegee tied the game at 17 on QB Ahmad Deramus s second TD pass to Javarius Cheatham, this one covering 3 yards early in the fourth quarter. Tuskegee drove 75 yards in 7 plays for the go-ahead score as Deramus hit Peyton Ramzy for the 55-yard score. On the ensuing possession, Tuskegee linebacker Davoris Thomas stopped the final CAU drive as he intercepted a pass at the CAU 36. Tuskegee then ran the last 5:33 off the clock. Deramus was 10 of 17 for 209 yards with three TD passes. Cheatham had five receptions for 105 yards including a 34-yard TD catch at the end of the second quarter. TUSKEGEEQB Ahmad Deramus FORT VALLEY STATE scored on a 6-yard pass from QB Slade Jarman to tight end Jaylen Lowder with :21 seconds left to pull out a 21-19 win over Miles in an East-West SIAC battle in Fairfield, Alabama. The teams were tied at 7 at the break but Miles broke on top 13-7 midway thru the third quarter as Leonard Tyree hauled in a 51-yard pass from QB Daniel Smith. FVSU (1-2) went back on top 14-13 midway thru the fourth quarter on a 6-yard TD run by Lorenzo Smothers and a PAT kick. Miles (0-3) surged ahead 19-14 as Tyree scored again on a 47-yard reception from Smith (11-21-1, 236 yards) with 5:28 left completing a 5-play, 80-yard drive. Tyree finished with five receptions for 171 yards and the two scores. FVSU s winning drive covered 65 yards in nine plays and included five completions by QB Slade Jarmon (21-31-1, 181 yard) culminating with the winning throw. SOUTHERN scored two touchdowns late in the third quarter to pull away to a 33-18 win over IA member Langston. Langston (1-1) only trailed 19-12 at the half after leading 12-7 in the second quarter, and pulled to within 19-18 in the third quarter on a 4-yard pass from QB Jaylen Lowe to Michael Colston. A 2-yard PAT attempt to take the lead failed. Southern stretched the lead to 26-18 as T. Smith scored on a 45-yard pass from QB John Lampley with 5:58 left in the third quarter. The Jaguars (1-2) added a 4-yard TD run from Kendall Catalon later in the period for the final score. Lampley ran for 132 yards on 14 carries (9.4 ypc.) and passed for 121 yards and 3 scores (9-15-0). FORT VALLEY ST. QB Slade Jarman SOUTHERN QB John Lampley TOUGH LOSSES No. 2 Prairie View A&M Morgan State Playing its fourth straight road game to start the season, BCSP No. 2 PRAIRIE VIEW A&M fell behind 34-0 at the half and was not able to recover in falling at UNLV, 46-17. Winless MORGAN STATE battled Albany but gave up an 88-yard fourth-quarter TD pass en route to falling 30-27. MSU (0-3) had gone up 27-23 with 7:55 left to play on a 45-yard interception return from sophomore LB Donte Small, his third interception of the day. But two plays after the TD, Albany QB Vince Testeverde connected with Dev Holmes for the go-ahead score. MSU had two more possessions but lost fumbles in both. BIG LOSERS Arkansas-Pine Bluff Alabama A&M Delaware State South Dakota State totalled 936 yards of offense in embarassing ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF, 90-6. SDSU ran for 369 yards and passed for 557 yards in the rout. UAPB (1-2) put up over 300 yards of offense but only scored on two Jamie Gilan field goals (47 and 20 yards). ALABAMA A&M (1-2) gave up 781 yards of offense to Cincinnati and was only able to muster 182 yards and eight first downs in a 63-7 loss. DELAWARE STATE passed for only 8 yards in falling to Western Michigan, 68-0.
