Alamo Detachment SEPTEMBER 2012 Vol. 20 Issue 09 HONOR COURAGE COMMITMENT COMMANDANT S MESSAGE Marines and Associates, We finally received good rain and the beginning of cooler weather is upon us. That means the start of fall and winter events. Our Detachment monthly meeting is this Saturday September 22 and our agenda is full. First, I would like to announce that the fundraiser trip to the Kickapoo Lucky Eagle Casino has been changed to October 17 vice September 26. We felt that the September 26 date was too close to our last trip on September 10. I would also like to announce that the San Antonio Young Marines are having their second annual Birthday Ball on the 13 of October. We should have more information by Saturdays meeting. The Marine Corps Birthday Ball committee is having a fundraiser for help with the cost of the Ball on Saturday October 13. BBQ Brisket & Sausage w/trimmings Plates are on sale for $7.00. The committee will give an update on the Ball preparations at the meeting. Tickets should go on sale very soon. The Detachment will have raffle with tickets going on sale last week of September with the drawing of the winning ticket on December 14. The prices are: first place, a 55 TV; second place, an IPad; and the third place, a computer printer. With the approval of the membership, we will have our Christmas party/awards night on December 14th. The time and location is to be announced at a later date. Representatives from the Bexar County Veterans Service Office will be present at the meeting to assist any member with information and preparation of applications for benefits. Liz Franklin and Marlena Kelly form the vets office were present at our last meeting and provided very useful information to those in attendance. It is time to prepare for the annual election of Detachment officers for 2013. An Election committee will be established at meeting on September 22, with the elections to be held at the November 24th meeting. Your input and participation is essential. As you know we have lost several Marines recently, our Marines and other Service Personnel continue in harm's way. Please keep them and their families in your prayers.
