IN GYM Two-day advising continues through today for sophomores and freshmen. Yesterday saw graduates, seniors and juniors advised by faculty On Monday and Tuesday, September 24, 25, registration will be conducted in the Gym. A shuttle station wagon will run continuously from the Administration area by the flagpole to the Gym during the two-day registration. Telephone extensions have been installed in the Gym during registration for the following offices: Academic Planning Advisers HAPPY TALK. HOLIDAYS IN OCTOBER & NOVEMBER 228 Bursar 244 229 Registrar 221 Two holidays are coming up in October. Columbus Day, October 8, will be a regular work and class day for the College? the holiday will be observed on November 23, the Friday following Thanksgiving Day, making a four-day holiday. Veterans Day, October 22, will be observed on that day as an Academic-Administrative holiday by the College. ^ ^ November 6 has been designated by the Attorney General as an election day for the tax initiative, and is therefore a holiday for State employees. This day will be considered a working day for all College offices and classes and can be taken as a floating holiday at a later date. The College Calendar, re-named "It's HappeningI," will be a regular supplement of the Bulletin. The San Bernardino County Tuberculosis and Health Assn. will have its mobile chest X-ray unit on campus Thursday, September 27, in the mall in front of the Admin. COLLEGE TO HAVE FIRST DRAMATIST-IN-RESIDENCE A multi-talented Broadway director-playwright will become the College's first dramatist-in-residence. Harry cauley, whose Broadway and off-broadway credits in producing, directing, acting and writing number into the hundreds, will teach courses in playwriting (Drama 510, 4 p.m., MW, open to all students regardless of major) and a beginning acting class (Drama 340). Mr. Cauley taught acting in New York, He was also connected with Ledges Playhouse in Michigan, operated by William Slout, Assoc. Prof. Drama at CSCSB, who was producer at the playhouse. While there Mr, Cauley worked as actor and director. Most recent of the plays which he wrote and directed on Broadway is "Let Me Hear You Smile,"produced in 1973, starring Sandy Dennis and Jules Broderick. Directoral credits include "Goodbye Again" Wendell Corey, "Streetcar Named Desire," Tobacco Road," Sweet Bird of Youth," and over 40 other noted Broadway productions. Mr. Cauley received his B.A. degree in English at St. Francis College, Pa. STAFF MEMBERS EARN CERTIFICATES AT UCLA Seven staff members were awarded certificates from UCLA's Labor Research and Education Center for CSEA job representative training. Earl Bouchard,Colleen Corbin, Tony Britto, Fred Cordova, Ray Mendez, Peggy Ratliff and Sharon Ward,who attended the class,were presented their certificates by Walter Taylor, General Manager of CSEA, last week. MUSIC DEPARTMENT OFFERS SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE Students, faculty and community members are welcome to attend the first rehearsal of the- Choral Society, Mon,, Oct. 1, 7 to 9:45 p.m./ FA-104, for auditions and sign-up. First concert will be in December with the group directed by Loren Filbeck, performing Mozart's Requiem. Offered for the first time this quarter - a Concert Band, under the direction of James Gibford. EVENING FOOD & BOOK* STORE SERVICES: Attention, Evening Faculty and Students; The following new and continuing services are now available: Vending machine service in Library Bldg»- first floor, southeast corner; outside entrance located to right of south access of Library.. The Bookstore will be open until 7 p.m. during registration week. Following registra-,j tion, the Bookstore will be open on TUESDAY evenings until 7 p.m. The Cafeteria is also open for evening meals. The main evening meal is served from 5 to 6 p.m. Mon. thru Fri. The grill will be open from 6 to 7, Mon. thru Thurs. COLLEGE ASKS CITY FOR The College has made official request for CHILD CARE CENTER FUNDS $16,280 to the City of San Bernardino for a share of the city's undistributed revenuesharing funds, of which $60,000 is ear-marked for day care facilities throughout the city. Last May the CSCSB Child Care Center Committee held a groundbreaking ceremony for the play yard of the center. The site, located north of the Student Services Bldg., was donated by the College. The A.S.B. allocated $3,000 for first-year operating expenses. The funds requested from the city would be used to buy three office trailers and convert them into an indoor play area and office unit. It is estimated that an average of 30 children an hour could be cared for by the center. It is expected that income from the 38b-hourly fees will maintain the project after its completion. VETERANS, HERE'S YOUR MAN A Navy veteran of four year's service who graduated from CSCSB last winter has been named Veterans Affairs Coordinator. Don Colletti, who joined the College staff Sept. 10, is temporarily located in offices adjacent to the Admissions and Records Lobby. As the College's first Veterans Coordinator, he will use the facilities of the College and initiate new services, including counseling and tutoring, to assist students who are veterans toward a successful college career. His duties will take him off-campus also, where he will contact veterans to advise them of their educational benefits under the G.I. Bill. Mr. Colletti, a life-long Californian, attended schools in Riverside and graduated from Riverside Poly High. FIRST LIVE-IN ADVISER AT SERRANO Lorraine Smith who came to the campus on Sept. 14, is the College's first live-in activities adviser at Serrano Village. In addition to working with the residents of the Village, particularly the house resource counselors, she will also serve as liaison for the students with the Cafeteria and maintenance personnel. Miss Smith earned her B.A. at UC, Berkeley and her M.A. in sociology at Chico State, and comes to CSCSB with a wide background of residence hall advising experience. One of the first activities planned by the new adviser is a trip to Disneyland tomorrow. Others scheduled are a car rally for all students, Sept. 29, follow /ed by a party, and a iks Vegas night on Oct. 13. J-
C3\Hm«.1ISC3 Gloria Cowan (Psychology) has an article entitled "Proxemicy idffects on Cooperation, Attitude, and Approach-Avoidance in a Prisoner's Dilemma Game" in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. 1973. Alexander Soko'loff (Biology) co-chaired a session at the International Congress of Genetics held at Berkeley Aug, 20 29. Dr. Sokoloff also presented a paper on "Species Interaction Between Tribolium Audax and Tribolium Madens in Different Media." Michael^Darkoh (Geography) has received word from Ghana Publishing Corp. that his manuscript on Manufacturing in Ghana has been accepted for publication, some time in March. Lee Kalbus (Chemistry) presented a paper, "A Multifaceted Experiment for Quantitati Analysis: Backtitration, Hydroxide Determination and Selection of an Indicator," before the Division of Chemical Education at the '73 Fall American Chemical Society National meeting, August 29, in Chicago. Co authors were Blalph Petrucci (Chemistry & Academic Planning) and Gene Kalbus (Long Beach SU). Students at CSCSB helped in development of the experiment which is used in the program. Hal Hoverland (Administration) addressed the noon meeting of the San Bernardino Hons Club on September 13 on the new programs at CSCSB. George Weiny (Physical Education) has had an article on his experiences this summer on the island of Truk, v^here he and five other instructors assisted with the removal of depth charges from sunken naval ships, accepted by the Diving World magazine.
