St Mary s Job Description TTLE: Psychologist CCOUNTBLE TO: Head of Therapy, Health and Wellbeing 1. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE: To work as a member of the Therapy Health and Wellbeing Team providing a high quality, specialist applied psychology service to pupils, their families or carers. n addition, to support psychological practice within the school through consultation, supervision, formulation and training. To utilise research skills for audit, service development and research within the area served by the team. nterventions should be child centred and evidence based and aim to reduce barriers to communication and learning and to enable pupils to participate in daily life as successfully as possible. 2. RESPONSBLTES: Within the contet of St Mary s Mission Statement and its ims and Objectives, this post includes the following key responsibilities: To play a major role in: a) Providing a highly specialist psychology service to pupils, their families and staff in line with best, evidence based practice. b) Being responsible for holding and managing a clinical caseload. c) Eercising autonomous professional responsibility for the planning and prioritising of own workload and the assessment and provision of interventions for pupils. d) Managing and supervising assistant psychologists and trainee psychologists. e) Providing consultation and advice about psychological issues to other members of the organisation working with the pupil. f) Working autonomously within professional guidelines. g) Contributing to service developments under the supervision of the Head of Therapy, Health and Wellbeing. h) Utilising research skills to undertake evaluation, audit and research, as appropriate, and disseminate the results within the school. i) Providing psychologically informed knowledge to support the proposal, implementation and dissemination of policy and practice changes within the school. Clinical Responsibility 1. To carry out specialist psychological assessments of pupils based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of comple psychological data from a variety of sources including psychological and neuropsychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with pupils, family members and staff, in order to reach a psychological formulation of the pupil s barriers to learning. 2. To formulate and implement psychological interventions based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the pupil s needs, and to practice within the contet of evidence based approaches and the overall therapeutic approach of the school.

3. To be responsible for implementing a range of psychological interventions for pupils, families and groups, adjusting and refining psychological formulations, drawing upon different eplanatory models and maintaining a number of provisional hypotheses. 4. To provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other professional contributing directly to a pupil s intervention plan. 5. To ensure that all members of the Wellbeing Team have access to a psychologically based framework for understanding and care of the pupils, through the provision of advice and consultation for the dissemination of psychological research and theory. 6. To undertake risk assessment, formulation and management for individual pupils and to provide advice to other professionals on psychological aspects of risk assessment, formulation and management, in order to contribute to effective and therapeutic management of risk. 7. To attend multi-disciplinary reviews. 8. To communicate information concerning the assessment, formulation of interventions in a skilled and sensitive manner in order to promote effective multi-disciplinary working and therapeutic outcomes for the pupils. 9. To promote and participate in multi-disciplinary team-working, development and liaison. 10. To promote actively, pupil involvement in care planning and service development. 11. To write reports reflecting the level of knowledge required for the post, and which meet departmental and tribunal standards. 12. To keep the Lead Therapists and Head of Therapy, Health and Wellbeing up-to-date with service provision issues and report any untoward incidences clinical or non-clinical, promptly, co-operating with any investigation undertaken. 7. To actively review efficacy of service delivery and facilitate setting up of new standards, or amend eisting ones, in close liaison with the team. 8. To develop good working relationships with multi-disciplinary teams, parents outside agencies and voluntary agencies to ensure that professionalism and service delivery are maintained. 9. To work alongside the Lead Therapists to develop and promote the wellbeing service at St Mary s. Responsibility for Research and Development 1. To contribute and take a lead in the setting, monitoring and evaluation of standards and policies. 2. To be involved in wellbeing and departmental clinical audits as required. General 1. To ensure HCPC registration is maintained, complying with Continuing Professional Development requirements to maintain registration. 2. To ensure the development, maintenance and dissemination of the highest professional standards of practice, through active participation in internal, and where appropriate, eternal CPD training and development programmes. 3. To participate fully in the school s performance review and personal development planning process on an annual basis. 4. To maintain the highest standards of clinical record keeping, report writing and the responsible eercise of clinical self-governance in accordance with the professional codes of practice of the British Psychological Society, Healthcare Professionals Council and school procedures. 5. To maintain up to date knowledge of legislation, national and local policies and issues in relation to SEN and mental health. 6. To work within agreed school policies and guidelines including adult and child protection guidelines and including health and safety regulations and policies. 7.
