All students participating in extracurricular activities are expected to leave the building by 4:30 p.m. Students may be transported home one of three ways: walking, parent/guardian pick-up, or by school bus. Students who are walkers or riding with a parent or guardian will exit through the main doors. Bus riders will exit through the bus loop doors. All parents/guardians who are picking up students need to use the pick-up/drop-off lanes only, to ensure the safety of those students boarding busses. Students who are not picked up on time may be ineligible to participate in future extracurricular activities. Students have fun, enjoy hands-on projects, games, activities, Asian and Cross-cultural food cooking lessons, & earn Student Service Learning Hours (SSL). They make friends & become part of a larger community. This group meets twice a week. Location: TBD Ms. McPherson NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY (NJHS) BY INVITATION ONLY Enrich and engage students of exceptional academic and social skills and abilities to make tangible changes to our school and community. An organization that recognizes middle school students for their outstanding scholarship, service, citizenship, leadership and character. Location: Room 1201 Every other Tuesday beginning October 23 rd -- April 30 th 7:30 am to 8:00 am and 3:10 pm to 4:25 pm Mr. White Students will audition to become part of the NMMS Rock Band. This program is designed to encourage students to play instruments in a way that is representative of modern popular music. This group meets twice a week. Location: Room 116 Time Frame Mr. Jacobson Open to all three grade levels. Location: Room 402 Ms. Abiodun

WEDNESDAY ACTIVITIES MATH OLYMPIAD The purpose of the middle school math team is to encourage a wide variety of students to strengthen and refine their higher order thinking through team competition. Participation in math team activities often provides students with the inspiration to continue in the study of higher level mathematics. The math team provides a vehicle for gifted mathematics students to receive recognition for their abilities at the local, state, and national level. Location: Media Center Wednesday, January 9 th -- May 29 th Mr. White SPANISH CLUB Open to all three grade levels. Location: Room 1207 Second & Fourth Wednesdays from September 26 -- May Ms. Daniel Open to all three grade levels. Get involved in community and school outreach, election of the student to the Montgomery County Board of Education, and much more. Location: Room 1204 September 26 -- May Ms. Pollock Open to all three grade levels. Students will help in the preparation of the Newport Mill Middle School Yearbook.
