CAP and the AFA Partnership Two Organizations with Mutual Goals CAP MISSION: Supporting America s communities with emergency response, diverse aviation and ground services, youth development, and promotion of air, space, and cyber power. THE AFA MISSION: Promote a dominant United States Air Force and a strong national defense, and honor Airmen and our Air Force Heritage by educating the public on the critical need for unmatched aerospace power and a technically superior workforce to ensure U.S. national security; advocating for aerospace power and STEM education; and supporting the total Air Force family and promoting aerospace education. 3

AFA Support to CAP AFA presents an annual National CAP Aerospace Education Cadet of the Year Award at the AFA s National Conference AFA provides all CAP squadrons the opportunity to participate in the CyberPatriot program at no cost to squadrons 7

CAP Support for the AFA Opportunity for AFA chapters to provide free CAP educator memberships as an easy, no cost outreach STEM initiative for any chapter. This one program offers chapters myriad ways to target support to formal and informal educational settings, offering program, product and positive mentorship for K-2 educators and students. Awareness of the AFA is brought to a non-choir audience, educators. Chapters can increase membership via these new educators, who may also become vibrant AEVPs. Specific program benefits follow 0

CAP Support for the AFA Free CAP Aerospace Educator Membership offers a variety of engaging STEM education, age-appropriate products aligned with National Academic Standards: K-2: numerous Aerospace Education Excellence (AEX) program books High school-college: 27 chapter comprehensive textbook, Aerospace: The Journey of Flight Middle School: six modules of Aerospace Dimensions; basic aerospace introduction K-6: Aerospace Connections in Education (ACE) curriculum And, much more. 2

CAP Support for the AFA Free CAP AE Membership includes Teacher Orientation Program (TOP) Flights: Enhance AFA educator workshops with not only free education materials, but first-hand, general aviation experience Can be flown by CAP pilots at local airports Ignite peer educator interest in STEM programs Bring public awareness of the AFA s educational component and worth to the community 3

CAP Support for the AFA Free STEM Kits provided to educator members: Choice of five STEM Kits: astronomy, flight simulators, model and remote-control airplanes, robotics, and rocketry Educational curriculum provided with each kit Chapters can assist in STEM Kit instruction Chapters can work with educators to conduct AFA public awareness programs using STEM Kits 4

CAP Support for the AFA K-2 Aerospace Education Excellence (AEX) Program supports the AFA Museum Initiative: All CAP educator members can participate in the free AEX program Six STEM activities and one 2-hour event complete the program Visit to aviation museum encouraged for 2-hour event Completion plaques and certificates presented to all participants AFA chapter representatives can assist in lesson instruction, museum tour coordination, and/or plaque and certificate presentations 5

CAP Support for the AFA AE Membership program assists AAS & SW STEM outreach initiatives: AFROTC Arnold Air Society and Silver Wings groups receive STEM products and lesson plans to conduct youth STEM programs Special certificates prepared for AAS & SW STEM Outreach Program College-aged AFA members can partner with chapter AEVPs to conduct chapter STEM outreach programs Gives young adult AFA members purposeful work with AFA chapters Provides mentors with whom youth can better relate 6

CAP Support for the AFA STEM Career Exploration Workshops for educators bring a new awareness of civilian and military aerospace/stem careers to share with students : The AFA s matching grant program can be used to provide such workshops CAP can support workshops with volunteers, transportation, and materials Workshops bring AFA chapters together for networking and synergistic program implementation 7

CAP Support for the AFA Connecting with educators through CAP educational programs enlarges the pool of potential chapter Teachers of the Year: Many teachers are not aware of the benefits of aerospace education integration until introduced to the program via AFA educator workshops and provision of free educational products and programs 8

CAP Support for the AFA AE Membership allows participation in Aerospace Connections in Education (ACE) program with the AFA as Presenting Sponsor K-6 CAP educator members can participate in the free ACE program Aerospace theme focuses on academics, to include STEM; character education; and physical fitness for living a healthy and drug-free lifestyle Grade-level specific curriculum aligned to national academic standards and class set of associated educational manipulatives provided ACE shirts noting the AFA s sponsorship provide team pride and positive morale; an enduring public awareness item for years AFA chapter representatives can assist in teaching lessons, arranging field trips to airports and museums, and presenting end-of-year completion plaques and student certificates (with the AFA noted as sponsor) 9
