RESOLUTION TO APPROVE PLACEMENT OF A STATUE IN THE MOODY FLAGPOLE PLAZA IN HONOR OF FORMER FOOTBALL COACH FRANKLIN M. FRANK BEAMER 69 WHEREAS, Frank Beamer is a highly revered and distinguished alumnus of Virginia Tech, having received his bachelor of science degree from the College of Liberal Arts and Human Sciences as a member of the well-regarded class of 1969; and WHEREAS, Coach Frank Beamer enjoyed a long and prestigious career as the Virginia Tech Head Football Coach until his retirement; and WHEREAS, Coach Beamer has received countless awards and honors throughout his storied career, and remains one of the most recognizable figures in university history; and WHEREAS, Coach Beamer s leadership ability and humble demeanor have endeared him to alumni, fans and friends alike, expanding the Hokie Nation by virtue of his ability to bring people together; and WHEREAS, Frank Beamer s accomplishments as a premier collegiate-level coach with numerous championships to his credit have resulted in his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame s Class of 2018; and WHEREAS, the Department of Athletics seeks to honor Coach Frank Beamer permanently on the Virginia Tech campus for his indelible imprint on the football program and for elevating the institution s comprehensive athletic portfolio and visibility on a global scale; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in appreciation to Coach Frank Beamer for his contributions to Virginia Tech and the Athletic program, the specially commissioned statue designed and to be created by artist Tom Gallo be permanently placed in the Moody Flagpole Plaza in front of Lane Stadium, a place of perpetual honor in celebration of his achievements and in acknowledgment of a tremendous legacy. That the above resolution to place the Coach Frank Beamer statue designed and to be created by artist Tom Gallo in the Moody Flagpole Plaza in front of Lane Stadium be approved.

RESOLUTION NAMING THE PLAYERS LOUNGE IN THE INDOOR GOLF FACILITY FOR JACK AND MARILYN CARROLL WHEREAS, John F. and Marilyn Carroll have been loyal supporters of the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund; and WHEREAS, the Carrolls have provided major support to Athletics for the Marilyn Carroll Women s Golf Scholarship, the Lane Stadium West Side Expansion, and the Indoor Practice Facility; and WHEREAS, John F. and Marilyn Carroll are Bronze Benefactors with the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund and members of the University s Ut Prosim Society at the Distinguished Benefactor Level; and WHEREAS, John F. and Marilyn Carroll have pledged $250,000 to the golf program s players lounge; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in appreciation to John F. and Marilyn Carroll for their generosity towards Virginia Tech and the Department of Athletics, the players lounge area in the golf facility will be named the Jack and Marilyn Carroll Players Lounge. That the above resolution naming the Jack and Marilyn Carroll Player s Lounge in the golf facility be approved.

RESOLUTION NAMING THE MEN S GOLF HEAD COACH S OFFICE IN THE BLACKWOOD INDOOR GOLF FACILITY FOR RICHARD J. DUMA, M.D., PH.D., CLASS OF 1955 WHEREAS, Richard J. Duma M.D., Ph.D., has been a loyal supporter of the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund and the men s golf program; and WHEREAS, Richard J. Duma has provided an endowed scholarship for the men s golf program through a trust in his estate; and WHEREAS, Dr. Duma is an avid golfer and supporter of the Hackin Hokies and the Virginia Tech men s golf team; and WHEREAS, Richard Duma and his wife, Mary Alyce, have great admiration for Coach Jay Hardwick and the men s golf program; and WHEREAS, Richard and Mary Alyce Duma have pledged $100,000 to men s golf; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in appreciation to Richard J. Duma M.D., Ph.D., and Mary Alyce Duma for their generosity towards Virginia Tech, the Department of Athletics, and the Men s Golf program, and wishing to pay tribute to Coach Jay Hardwick, the office of the Head Men s Golf Coach in the Willis and Mary Blackwood Indoor Golf Facility be named the Dr. Richard J. Duma 55 Men s Golf Head Coach s Office. That the above resolution naming the Dr. Richard J. Duma 55 Men s Golf Head Coach s Office be approved.

RESOLUTION NAMING THE UMPIRES DRESSING ROOM AND THE TEAM ROOM IN THE WEAVER BASEBALL CENTER AT ENGLISH FIELD IN UNION BANK PARK FOR IRVIN G. HORNER 40 WHEREAS, the late Irvin G. Horner of the Class of 1940 and Irvin G. Jack Horner, Jr. have been major donors to Virginia Tech s Athletic Department; and WHEREAS, Irvin G. Jack Horner, Jr. is a Hokie Benefactor with Virginia Tech Athletics and a member of the university s Ut Prosim Society; and WHEREAS, the late Irvin G. Horner provided major capital funding for the Merryman Athletics Center, and the Hokie Club suite in Cassell Coliseum was named in his honor; and WHEREAS, the late Irvin G. Horner 40 was a letterman and catcher on the Virginia Tech baseball team; and WHEREAS, Irvin G. Jack Horner, Jr. and family have pledged $350,000 to English Field at Union Bank Park and the baseball program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that in appreciation to Irvin G. Jack Horner, Jr. and family for their generosity towards Virginia Tech, the Department of Athletics, and the baseball program, and wishing to memorialize their late father, both the Umpires Dressing Room and the Team Room in the James C. Weaver Baseball Center at English Field in Union Bank Park be named the Irvin G. Horner 40 Umpires Dressing Room and the Irvin G. Horner 40 Team Room. That the above resolution naming both the Irvin G. Horner 40 Umpires Dressing Room and the Irvin G. Horner 40 Team Room in the James C. Weaver Baseball Center at English Field in Union Bank Park be approved.

RESOLUTION NAMING THE STUDENT ATHLETE DEVELOPMENT CENTER ON THE 6 TH FLOOR OF LANE STADIUM FOR PAUL AND ALLISON LOMBARDI WHEREAS, Paul and Allison Lombardi have been loyal supporters of the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund; and WHEREAS, Paul and Allison Lombardi have provided major support to Athletics for the Lombardi Family Athletic Scholarship and the Indoor Practice Facility; and WHEREAS, Paul and Allison Lombardi are Orange & Maroon Benefactors with the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund and members of the University s Ut Prosim Society at the Benefactor Level; and WHEREAS, Paul Lombardi has been appointed to the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund s Executive Committee and Board of Directors; and WHEREAS, Paul Lombardi is a strong advocate, volunteer and board member for the Apex Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship in the Pamplin College of Business; and WHEREAS, Paul and Allison Lombardi have pledged $1,050,000 to Virginia Tech Athletics Student Athlete Development program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in appreciation to Paul and Allison Lombardi for their generosity towards Virginia Tech and the Department of Athletics, the Student Athlete Development area on Lane Stadium s 6 th Floor will be named the Lombardi Student Athlete Development Center. That the above resolution naming the Lombardi Student Athlete Development Center be approved.

RESOLUTION ON NAMING THE WOMEN S GOLF HEAD COACH S OFFICE FOR PATSY PT SMITH WHEREAS, Garnett Smith has been a loyal supporter of the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund; and WHEREAS, Garnett Smith has provided major support to Intercollegiate Athletics for Women s Golf, Lane Stadium s South End Zone expansion, The Garnett E. and Patsy T. Smith Athletics Endowment, the Indoor Practice Facility and Lane Stadium s West Side suites, among others; and WHEREAS, Garnett Smith is a Golden Benefactor within the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund and a President s Circle member of the University s Ut Prosim Society; and WHEREAS, Garnett Smith has a passion for the Women s Golf program at Virginia Tech; and WHEREAS, Garnett s late wife, Patsy, was a lover of golf ; and WHEREAS, Garnett Smith has given $100,000 to Virginia Tech Athletics and in support of the Women s Golf program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in appreciation to Garnett Smith for his generosity towards Virginia Tech and the Department of Athletics, and in memory of his late wife, Patsy, the head women s golf coach s office in the Willis and Mary Blackwood Indoor Golf Facility be named the Patsy PT Smith Head Coach s Office. That the above resolution naming the Patsy PT Smith Head Coach s Office be approved.

RESOLUTION TO NAME THE HOME TEAM HALFTIME ROOM IN RECTOR FIELD HOUSE FOR RICHARD T. AND PATRICIA L. THATCHER WHEREAS, Richard and Patricia Thatcher are Class of 1971 alumni of Virginia Tech in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics, respectively; and WHEREAS, Rick and Pat Thatcher have been loyal supporters of the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund; and WHEREAS, the Thatchers have provided major support to Athletics for Lane Stadium s South End Zone Expansion; and WHEREAS, Rick and Pat Thatcher are Hokie Benefactors within the Virginia Tech Athletic Fund and Benefactors within the University s Ut Prosim Society; and WHEREAS, Rick and Pat Thatcher have committed $100,000 to Rector Field House renovations and an additional $25,000 to the Hokie Scholarship Fund; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in appreciation to Rick and Pat Thatcher for their generosity towards Virginia Tech and the Department of Athletics, the Home Team Halftime Room for soccer and lacrosse in the renovated Rector Field House be named the Rick and Pat Thatcher Home Team Halftime Room. That the above resolution naming the Rick and Pat Thatcher Home Team Halftime Room in Rector Field House be approved.

RESOLUTION ON NAMING THE SERVICES FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES TESTING CENTER IN LAVERY HALL FOR ROBERT M. WERTH 74, 81 WHEREAS, Robert M. Werth is an esteemed alumnus of Virginia Tech, having received his bachelor of science degree in Political Science in 1974 and Master of Business Administration in 1981; and WHEREAS, Robert Werth has had a long and prestigious career in accessible transportation services; and WHEREAS, Robert Werth has been a champion for individuals with disabilities, possessing a philosophy of humanism instilled in him by his mother; and WHEREAS, Robert Werth s commitment to and execution of this philosophy coupled with his embodiment of the Ut Prosim motto, That I may serve, led to his attendance at the historic signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990; and WHEREAS, Robert Werth has made a significant gift to expand the Testing Center for Services for Students with Disabilities, exponentially enhancing the center s ability to proctor examinations to meet the need of students who require testing accommodations to maximize their academic potential; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that in appreciation to Robert Werth for his generosity towards Virginia Tech and the Division of Student Affairs, the expanded SSD testing center on the second floor of Lavery Hall be named the Werth Testing Center. That the above resolution naming the Werth Testing Center in Lavery Hall be approved.
