TECHNOLOGY COMPETITION FOR THE BENEFIT OF HUMANITY CONTEST TERMS AND CONDITIONS 1

1. OBJECTIVE OF THE COMPETITION The objective of the competition is to combine social responsibility with technological know-how and encourage participants to create projects that may benefit the society. Projects will be evaluated based on practicality, community benefit and convenience. We also value projects in the areas of education, health, transportation, and environment, and those that can improve life in technologically and economically disadvantaged areas while utilizing unique and national resources. 2. COMPETITION CATEGORIES 2.1. HEALTH It covers technological project ideas that will improve the health conditions, provide solutions to existing problems, add innovations and designs to the devices and technologies in use with national resources, and facilitate the accessibility of existing health technologies. 2.2. EDUCATION It covers technological project ideas that will create opportunity and equality in education in line with the needs of society, provide technological innovations in the field of education and improve education services. 2.3. ENVIRONMENT It covers viable and sustainable technological project ideas for the effective use of natural resources, protection of ecological balance and the environment, recycling of waste, efficient use of energy resources, environmental pollution and similar issues. 2.4. TRANSPORTATION It covers technological project ideas that will solve the existing problems in transportation systems, while improving the comfort of passengers and community. 2.5. DISASTER MANAGEMENT It covers technological project ideas which brings solutions to risk reduction, preparedness, response and mitigation phases before, during and after disasters within the scope of disaster management and also humanitarian relief works. 3. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION FOR COMPETITON All elementary, secondary, high school, and university students and adults who are educated in Turkey and abroad can participate in the competition. It is mandatory for elementary and secondary level teams to have a consultant in their projects among the teachers of their schools. 2

The competitor shall be eligible to participate in the competition by reading and confirming all the explanations and conditions of participation before applying. As well as individual participation in the competition, applications as a team are accepted too. Projects must be transformable into commercial product, sustainable, original, innovative and viable with a social influence. Project ideas must not be copied. Projects that are found to be similar or imitated will be excluded from the competition. If the competitor has already been in another competition with the same project, the name, place, date, organizer, and conclusion information of the competitor he / she participated in must be reported in the project file. It is possible to participate in the competition with more than one project in the same or different categories. A separate application form has to be filled in for each project. Applicants can apply to only one category per project. The applications of the teams and individuals who apply to more than one category with the same project will be considered invalid. The applicants for the competition are considered to have agreed to all of the above conditions. Teams consisting of Elementary, Secondary and High school students will compete against each other, teams consisting of university and higher level students and adults will compete against each other. 3.1. Terms of Application Applications will be made on the official website of TEKNOFEST ISTANBUL Aviation, Space and Technology Festival Technology Competitions (www.teknofestistanbul.org). For the application, the application form must be filled in until February 28 th 2019. 3.1.1. Elementary/secondary/High school students should complete and upload the application form by filling in: - Student name-surname, school name and contact information (mailing address, phone number), project name and category, - If application is made as a team; information of the other team members (student names, school name and contact information) and the team name. - The name and surname of the advisor. 3.1.2. University students/adults should complete and upload the application form by filling in: - Participant name-surname, university, faculty, department name, contact information, project name and category, - If applied as a team, information of the other team members (student names, faculty, department name and contact information - The name and surname of the consultant. 3

4. Competition Calendar, Scoring and Evaluation 4.1.Competition Calendar Table 1 : Competition calendar Date Description 28 February 2019 Application Deadline 10 March 2019 Deadline for Preliminary Project Report 10 April 2019 Announcement of the successful teams based on the Preliminary Project Report results. 10 May 2019 Deadline for Detailed Project Reports 30 May 2019 The announcement of Detailed Project Reports Results, Teams that Will Receive Financial Support and the Finalists September (to be announced) Competition Presentation Dates The evaluation process will consists of three segments: Preliminary Project Report, Detailed Project Report and Competition Scoring. The applicant teams who does not send their Preliminary Project Report and the Detailed Project Report will not be able to enter the competition. 4

4.2. Preliminary Project Report Teams are obliged to submit their Preliminary Project Reports by the end of March 10th, 2019. More details on Preliminary Project Reports will be shared with the teams who successfully submit their applications, after the aforementioned deadline for Preliminary Project Reports. Based on the Preliminary Project Reports, Preliminary Elimination Results will be announced. The teams who went through the 2nd phase will be declared on April 10th, 2019. The Preliminary Project Report can be reached on: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ktawd554tscpup0kt-crdmxksvhwaimm. The criteria to be followed on Preliminary Project Reports are: 4.2.1. Preliminary Elimination Criteria Submitted projects that are complete and in accordance with the application conditions will be subject to preliminary elimination by taking the following criteria into consideration. Innovation - Originality: projects will be checked whether there is any similarity with other projects already implemented. Has it been compared to similar products? Does it offer a new technology, design or service? To bring a solution to a problem/need: It will be checked whether there is any research to support the idea of the project and whether there are any tangible data or information to reveal the usefulness of the project. Can the project bring a solution to a problem in society. Does the project bring or contribute to a solution to a local or regional problem? Feasibility: It will be checked whether the project is feasible and whether the materials consist of national resources as much as possible. Can the project proposal be transformed into a technological commercial product? Have the steps to implement the project been specified? Budget: It will be checked whether the project can be implemented with minimum cost. How can it be implemented with minimum cost Has a cost account for the project been made? Has a cost comparison been made with similar projects? Project Shareholders: It will be checked if all the individuals and institutions in the project are specified. Who are the team members? Who is the project manager? The target audience of the product or the process. Is there a plan about the possible collaborations with individuals or institutions, together with its reasons? Risks: It will be checked if the risks that could affect the project negatively were specified? Are the problems that may arise during the application of the project identified? 5

4.3. Project Detailed Report Teams that have taken the Project Detailed Report (PDR) stage are obliged to submit the Project Detail Reports on 10 May 2019. In Project Detailed Report; The Project Development processes, including Analysis, Design, Development, Testing and Implementation (integration and transition to live activities), should be explained in more detail and a Project Budget, Project Plan (project schedule) and Project Scope should be also detailed. The templates for the Project Detail Report will be announced on the TEKNOFEST website after the application deadline. The teams which are entitled to receive financial support according to the results of the PDR will be announced on 30 May 2019. 4.4. Competition Scoring The competition score consists of two part. First part of the score is the evaluation of the report and second part of the score is the evaluation of the prototype and visual presentation. 4.4.1. The Score of the Report (20%) Below are the scoring types and percentages: The score of the report make up %20 of the total point. The Score of Prototype and Presentation (80%) Each finalist project will be evaluated by their respective jury formed by professionals of relating category. The applicants need to prepare a presentation for the jury, which will make up %80 of the total score after the evaluation of the jury. The prototype is the tangible product or the process of a project. It would be the basic form of the project if it is materialized. This can include screenshots or screen pictures that show functional abilities of a software prototype as well as functional hardware prototypes made of cartoons, legos etc. The detailed information about the requirements of the competition environment, the exhibition of the prototypes and visual presentations will be shared with the finalists after the finalist teams are determined. 5. PRIZES In the competition, teams that avoid the preliminary elimination following the evaluation process in each of the five categories and are ranked in their own classification in final evaluation will be awarded with monetary prize. The prizes shown in the following table in Turkish liras indicate the total amount to be awarded to the prize-winning teams. No individual prizes will be awarded. The prizes of first, second and third 6

places will be shared equally among team members and will be transferred to the bank account stated by applicants. Only those who can qualify for the prize ranking will be eligible to receive the prizes stated in Table 3. 6. GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS Teams have the right to object to the concerned judge through their team leaders. Objections can be made verbally, provided that they are submitted in writing at a later time. Verbal objections must be put in writing within 24 hours. In any case, non-written objections will not be taken into consideration. Objections will be finalized within 24 hours after having examined by the judge panel. Each contestant is responsible for taking the necessary precautions and showing the expected attention to his/her peers and the environment. Turkish Technology Team (T3) Foundation and the organisation committee reserve the right to make any amendments to the specifications in order for the contest to take place in accordance with the specified impartial criteria so that any violations may result in judicial outcomes, to better meet all sorts of requirements by the contestants, to provide necessary safety precautions and to maintain the functionality of the contest specifications. Having made the necessary evaluations following the application deadline, T3 Foundation and the organisation committee reserves the right to cancel the contest given that sufficient number of applications is not reached with the required technical knowledge and skills. TEKNOFEST Safety and Security Terms and Conditions will be communicated to all contestants, delegations and concerned parties. All competing teams are responsible for observing the safety terms and conditions specific to their respective categories specified in TEKNOFEST Safety and Security Terms and Conditions. In this regard, with the exception of security precautions contained in the aforementioned security instructions, it 7

is the contestants responsibility to take additional precautions arising from the systems employed. T3 Foundation and the organisation committee has the right to exclude any and all teams from the contest who do not fulfill the terms and conditions of TEKNOFEST Safety and Security Terms and Conditions to provide a safe environment for holding the contest. T3 Foundation and organisation officials cannot be held responsible for damages arising from the violation of terms and conditions by the contestants, delegations and concerned parties. Regarding the competition, the competitor hereby accepts and consents to any kind of written or visual promotion, publication, social media and internet broadcasting to be made by the T3 Foundation and / or TEKNOFEST before or after the competition. In addition, the competitor agrees and submits that any and all intellectual property generated as pertains to the competition, including but not exclusive to designs, code, and manufactured products, belongs exclusively to the T3 Foundation and / or TEKNOFEST and that the competitor does not have any rights to or demands on these artifacts. T3 reserves the right to disclose all intellectual property thereby for public consumption in a manner it deems fitting. In the event that a competitor infringes upon the intellectual property rights of any product, and T3 Foundation and/or TEKNOFEST incur damages, the responsibility for such damages will be borne entirely by the relevant participant(s). All teams who qualify to compete in the contest will be given a Participation Certificate. 6.1. STATEMENT OF LIABILITY Turkish Technology Team Foundation and TEKNOFEST are in no way liable for any injury or damage caused by any entry, any entrant, or by the disqualification of an entry. Turkish Technology Team Foundation and TEKNOFEST at large are not responsible for ensuring teams operate their systems within the law of the Turkish Republic. The Turkish Technology Team Foundation and TEKNOFEST, and organisation officials cannot be held responsible for the damages inflicted upon third parties by the contestants. Turkish Technology Team Foundation has the right to make any amendments to this terms and conditions. 8
