Section 3 Page 2 All of the services described in this section are also featured on channel 2, the UWMC Information Channel, on your television. Food Cafeteria The Plaza Café is on the 1 st floor. Take the Pacific elevators to the 1 st floor and follow the signs to the Plaza Café. The café is open every day from 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Meal times are: Breakfast... 6:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Lunch... 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Dinner...4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The weekly menu is available at the Information Desk on the 3 rd floor, and is available at the front desk of the Rehab Unit. The menus have been translated into Russian, Spanish, and Vietnamese. Espresso Stands Espresso stands are located near the Gift Shop on the 3 rd floor, in the rear of the Plaza Café sitting area on the 1 st floor, and in the Surgery Pavilion on the 1 st floor. Weekday hours vary for each location, but most are open 6:30 a.m. till 9:00 p.m. Weekend hours are 8:30 a.m. till 6:30 p.m. Midnight Snacks A snack cart stops at different places throughout the Medical Center from 7:30 p.m. till 3:30 a.m. daily. Sandwiches and snack foods may be purchased from the cart. The snack cart schedule is posted at the front desk of the Rehab Unit. Tea Room A quiet Tea Room is in the hallway on the 3 rd floor that connects the Surgery Pavilion and Medical Center. Weekday hours are 8:30 a.m. till 4:00 p.m. The Tea Room is closed on weekends.

Section 3 Page 3 Maps and Finding Your Way There is a floor map of the Rehab Unit in About the Rehab Unit, section 2 of this manual. There is a brochure with maps, Maps & Directions, in your Rehab Resource folder. You can also obtain maps of the medical center at the Information Desk on the 3 rd floor. Please ask any staff person with a badge for help with directions. Transportation and Parking If you have a transportation question, talk to someone on your care team. A social worker may be able to help you with transportation needs. Parking Ask at the nurses station for validation for reduced parking fees for your family members and friends. There are two places where patients, family members, and visitors can park when coming to UWMC: Triangle Garage and Surgery Pavilion Parking Garage. Patients with disability or mobility parking needs may park in the Surgery Pavilion garage or use valet parking at the main entrance to the medical center and on level P1 of the Surgery Pavilion. There is more information in the brochure Parking Information for Patients in your Rehab Resource folder. Services and Other Resources Cash Machines There are four Automatic Cash Machines (ATMs) in the medical center. They are located: On the 3 rd floor, near the Cashier s Desk (Bank of America). On the 1 st floor, near the vending machines and restrooms at the Plaza Café (Bank of America).

Section 3 Page 4 On the 1 st floor next to the Pacific elevators (WSECU Washington State Employees Credit Union). At South Campus Center, outside the northwest entrance (U.S. Bank). Fax and Notary Services Contact the Social Work office or ask your nurse if you need access to a fax machine. Social Work can also help you and your family with notarizing healthcare-related documents. Call to schedule an appointment. On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, call 598-4369. On Tuesday and Thursday, call 598-8413. Be sure to dial 9 first when calling from a bedside phone. Gift Shop The Gift Shop is on the 3 rd floor. Take the Pacific elevators to the main lobby. The Gift Shop sells newspapers, greeting cards, magazines, phone cards, stamps, gifts, candy, snacks and beverages. Weekday hours are 6:30 a.m. till 9:00 p.m., and weekend hours are 8:00 a.m. till 7:00 p.m. Hair Salon Salon Unique is in the South Campus Center behind the medical center. The salon offers in-room haircuts. Call 543-1999 (dial 9 first if using a bedside phone) to schedule an appointment. The salon prefers to make morning appointments for in-room service. Payment arrangements are made when the appointment is scheduled. The salon accepts cash, check, or credit card. Healing Garden Relax and enjoy nature in this peaceful setting. The garden is at the rear of the building on the 3 rd floor. Check with your doctor or nurse before visiting this area.

Section 3 Page 5 Questions? Your questions are important. Talk to your doctor, nurse, or other health care provider if you have questions or concerns. While you are a patient on 8-North call: 206-598-4800 After discharge, call your primary care provider or UWMC s Rehabilitation Clinic: 206-598-4295 Housing UWMC has a Patient Family Housing Guide. Ask your social worker for a copy. The guide is also available online at: http://www.uwmedicine.org/facilities/uwmedicalcenter/ clinicsandservices/patientfamilyhousingguide.htm. The guide provides information about accommodations, contract rates, long-term housing, and transportation options. Information Channel The Information Channel is available on the television in your room on channel 2. It runs continuously 24 hours a day. All of the information covered cycles through about every 11 minutes. Most of the information covered by the Information Channel is also covered in this section of Rehab and Beyond. Mail Mail is delivered daily to patient floors. Outgoing mail can be placed in the mailbox at the nurses station or in the U.S. mailbox in front of the medical center, near the bus stop. The Gift Shop on the 3 rd floor has UPS services. Pharmacy When you are discharged, you can pick up and/or purchase your medicines at the Pharmacy from 8:00 a.m. till 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. On Saturday, Sunday, and holidays, the Pharmacy is open from 8:00 a.m. till 8:00 p.m. Ask for directions to the Pharmacy at the Information Desk on the 3 rd floor.
