THREE FIVE NINER NEWS PAGE 4 SUPPORT YOUR POST BY PATRONIZING OUR BAR & GRILL Our current Bar & Grill operation help fund our program efforts. By patronizing our Post you help send a young man to Boys State to learn how government works, provide assistance to veterans in need and provide a location for veterans to socialize and commiserate. Remember - we need your support in order to maintain our current Headquarters. We have daily specials and give a 10% discount to any veteran or active duty member with ID as well as to current members of the Post, Squadron and Auxiliary with their membership card. Carry-out is also available. Using that discount over the course of a year will more than pay for your membership in the Legion Family. A copy of our menu is online at http://events.ponypost359.org/. Please call the Post to make sure of current prices as the menu can change prior to being updated on the web site. The Legion is the best and largest advocate for veterans on Capitol Hill. Various groups, organizations and business concerns pay hundreds of millions of dollars to lobby Congress for what they want. Don t YOU deserve to have someone lobby for you, the veteran? Even if you never participate actively in the Post your dues help the Legion advocate for your rights and support our local community efforts. If you know someone who needs to re-join our Post or should be a member of the Legion, get them signed up today. - - - - - Jerome L. Goolsby, Post Adjutant There is a program from a group called AMBUCS that provides hand tricycles for disabled veterans to help them have greater mobility. T HREE FIVE NINER NEW S PAGE 6 Members who wish to do so can renew their membership online with a credit or debit card. PAY YOUR DUES ONLINE National Headquarters will send out dues notices that will include a website link (http:// www.legion.org/renew) where members can pay their dues utilizing a credit card or debit card. The procedures are explained at the renewal link and members can review them before to see if they wish to utilize the system. If members do not choose to use the system, they simply mail in their dues as they always have. This system will also not effect those who are either Paid-Up-For- Life (PUFL) members or LIFE Members of their Post. THE POST FUNERAL DETAIL NEEDS VOLUNTEERS SO THEY MAY CONTINUE PROVIDING HONORS TO OUR DEPARTED COMRADES IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN SUPPORTING THIS VITAL AND IMPORTANT WORK, CONTACT THE POST ADJUTANT Your American Legion membership is vital regardless of your level of participation in Legion activities. When you travel, any Legion Post along your way is a welcome place of respite. There are numerous discounts and financial assistance available to members that can save you money. Your membership increases the strength of our voice to both state and national legislatures in advocating for veterans issues. The American Legion was the driving force in getting changes to the G.I. Bill and veterans claims processing that help veterans. Your dues also support the programs of the Legion even if you never attend a meeting. Unlike groups like the March of Dimes and the Wounded Warrior Project who have to take the cost of fundraising out what you donate to them, The American Legion takes those costs out of your membership dues. So your dues are a donation to support Legion programs. I m asking that if you haven t paid your dues yet, please do so. If you know someone who let their membership lapse, get them to reinstate their membership in our Post. If you know someone who is eligible to be a member but hasn t yet joined, sign them up. We need their support. Thank you for being a member of Pony Express Post 359. - - - - Jerome L. Goolsby, Commander
