Be sure to check each of the scholarship(s) for which you meet the minimum requirements. You may check more than one, however, if you do NOT check the box you may not be considered for that scholarship. 2. The following items MUST be attached to your application: a. An official high school transcript which includes the Fall 2005 semester of your senior year and your Spring 2006 work in progress. The Waltmar Honors Program Scholarship requires Spring 2006 final grades. b. One to three letters of recommendation from people who know first-hand of your achievements and your qualifications for the scholarship, with the following exception, the Waltmar Honors Program Scholarship requires two letters of recommendation; c. All award monies will be disbursed in the following manner: 1. Half to be awarded to the student for full-time (12 or more units) enrollment in the Fall 2006 semester at Santiago Canyon College and the balance awarded for the Spring 2007 semester, except for the Waltmar Honors Program Scholarships. 2. The second increment is contingent upon successful completion of your Fall 06 semester and registration as a full-time student in the Spring 07 semester at Santiago Canyon College, except for the Waltmar Honors Program Scholarships. 3. SCC High School Scholarship Program Application WALTMAR HONORS PROGRAM SCHOLARSHIP Application for 2006-2007 Scholarship Program Office (714) 628-4793 APPLICATION DEADLINE: OCTOBER 2, 2006 Please review the Waltmar Honors Program Scholarship description and qualifications carefully. All requirements must be met BEFORE semester funds will be disbursed. Recipients will be announced at the Fall 2006 SCC Honors Program Retreat. (Check SCC Honors Program website for the date.) DESCRIPTION The SCC Honors Program Scholarships are designed to recruit entering freshman from local high schools to participate in the SCC Honors Program. The purpose of the scholarship is to encourage students who might otherwise have transferred to the university as freshman to consider an avenue which may ultimately give them more choices and opportunities. Thanks to a donation from the Waltmar Foundation, SCC will offer five $500 scholarships to be used toward enrollment fees, books, lab fees, and other classroom expenses. Once all required criteria have been verified by the SCC Scholarship Office & the SCC Honors Program, the first $250 will be awarded for the spring semester. The second $250 will be awarded the following fall semester contingent upon maintaining the minimum requirements for recipients (see below) the first semester. One $500 scholarship will go to an academically outstanding student at each of the following local high schools: Canyon, El Modena, Orange, Villa Park and to one of the following high schools: Esperanza, Valencia, Foothill, Lutheran or Tustin High School MINIMUM CRITERIA FOR APPLICANTS Entering freshman from one of the above high schools A minimum high school overall GPA of 3.00 Must become a member of the SCC Honors Program and be enrolled in at least one honors class in fall of 2006 Two (2) letters of recommendation on letterhead (at least one from a school official) addressing any of the following: academic performance, character, extracurricular/leadership activities, academic goals; Interview may be required Financial need may be considered. ADDITIONAL CRITERIA TO BE CONSIDERED IN EVALUATING APPLICANTS: GPA above 3.00; Depth and breadth of courses taken in high school; Beyond classroom activities: campus, civic, family activities and service; Degree goal. REQUIREMENTS FOR RECIPIENTS Must complete a minimum of 3 Honors courses in the first year of enrollment with at least one the first semester and English 101H the first year; Must be a full-time SCC student (12 units minimum); Must maintain an overall SCC GPA of 3.0 both semesters; Must attend the Spring 2007 Scholarship Awards Ceremony.
