This will be achieved through: (i) carrying out perception-based surveys in selected countries on progress toward peace-building and state-building that will generate data and indicators that can be utilized by many policy actors working in these states; (ii) building communication programs to disseminate data to wide audiences in these countries and regionally; and (iii) identifying and training suitable local partners for collecting and monitoring data in these countries so that the production and communication of these indicators is sustainable over time. Afrobarometer Rounds 5 and 6 has been well implemented. Reliable public opinion data has been produced on democracy, governance, economic, social development and civil society. Capacity building among Africa Institutions and dissemination of results is benefiting public debate and policy development. The new National Partner The following activities have been carried out in the context of Round 6 survey: Burundi: Round 6 survey fieldwork was completed in October 2014, and data has been cleaned and finalized. Afrobarometer has held two release events, one on 30 January 2015 on election environment and vote choice, and a second on 25 February on democracy and political leadership, term limits, and freedom and the rule of law. They have also put out a press release on support for term limits in the context of an active 'third-term debate' in the country. More dissemination events will follow in the next 2-3 months. Cote d'ivoire: Round 6 survey fieldwork was completed in September 2014, and data has been cleaned and finalized. They held their first public release event on 17 February covering topics that included reconciliation, social cohesion and the situation of ex-combatants, as well as the upcoming presidential elections and the problem of political intimidation. More dissemination events will take place in the next 2-4 months. Niger: Survey preparations are at an advanced stage and Round 6 survey fieldwork is schedule to start by the end of March. Sierra Leone: The Round 6 survey was put on hold in 2014 due to the Ebola outbreak, but now preparations have resumed and it is anticipated to do the fieldwork in April/May. Togo: Round 6 survey fieldwork took place in October 2014 and the data is now clean and finalized. In addition to an early Afrobarometer Dispatch on support for term limits in December (also in the context of a public third-term debate), the Togo team has held two public release events, one on 20 January on public priorities, and a second on 25 February on decentralization, the diaspora, and CENI. Additional dissemination events will take place in the next 2-3 months. Mali: Round 6 survey fieldwork took place in December 2014. Data is currently being cleaned and finalized for release in April through July. In South Sudan, Afrobarometer team continues monitoring the situation closely and are prepared to go ahead with a survey as soon as the political situation is conducive to allowing a survey to go ahead in all, or at least most of the country. 5/13/2015 Page 2 of 6
