High Five Art Contest The Autry Museum of the American West invites artists to submit designs for a large-scalee banner on the exterior of the Autry in Griffith Park, visible from the 5 Freeway and the Los Angeles River. The winning artist or team of artists will receive a prize of $2,500. Theme: California a Continued Submissions should constitute original works of art that comment on the ongoing interconnection and collaboration of Californians with the natural environment. We encourage artists to address aspects of California and the West ncluding its populations and landscapes within a bold and creative format. The winning banner will be installed in October 2016, in conjunction with the Autry s grand opening of California Continued. Through immersive storytelling and nearly 20,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor spaces, California Continued shares how traditional ecological knowledge gained through centuries of experience can help present- extraordinary art, artifacts, and personal ephemera, ncluding manyy objects from the Southwest Museum of the American Indian Collection on view for the very first time. Beyond the galleries, a new ethnobotanical garden will day residents understand and care for the California environment. Two new exhibition galleries will present feature more than 60 Native plants and activities that explore how generations of peoples, especially First Californians, have made use of plants and water. The design will be on view for one year, with the possibility of extension. Artist Eligibility The Autry is accepting submissions from individual artists and teams of artists. Rules and Conditions One submission per artist. If the artist is part of a team, s/he may only be part of one team submission. The deadline for High Five Art ( Contest ) submissions is July 1, 2016, at 11:59 p.m. The Contest schedule and selection committee are subject to change. Submissions may consist of photographs, graphic designs, paintings, or any other original works of art that are either born-digital or reproduced as a digital file. Image Modifications: Entrants are welcome to use Photoshop or other tools to modify digital images. Images may be cropped, resized, rotated, and filtered. Not Permitted: No watermarks may be added. Artists will retain the ownership of design ideas submitted with this application until a selection has been made and $2,500 compensation has been paid to the artist. Upon such payment, the ownership of the design, the outdoor banner, and other artwork produced therefrom will become the property of the Autry Museum of the American West ( the Autry ). The Autry reserves the option to add an Autry logo and #HighFiveArt text to the banner, determining exact placement in communication with the winning artist(s). Entries that are lost, late, misdirected, illegible, unintelligible, or incomplete, for any reason, will not be eligible. The Autry is not responsible for computer system, hardware, software, or program malfunctions or other errors, failures, or delayed computer transactions or network connections that are human or technical in nature. Notwithstanding the foregoing, if the Autry identifies opportunities to utilize the design ideas through their incorporation into merchandise for sale in the Autry store, on-line or otherwise, the Autry will invite the artist to enter into a new contractual agreement specifying artist compensation with respect to any such sales. The Autry will engage in such sales only if the Autry and the artist agree upon and enter into such new contract. By entering, you represent that your design is your own original creation, that it has not been copied from others, and that it does not violate the rights of any other person or entity. Any intellectual property infringement, misuse or plagiarism of another person s work in any form or state will result in immediate disqualification and forfeiture of eligibility to receive all awards, recognition, and prizes. By entering the Contest and/or accepting a prize, to the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to release and hold harmless the Autry and its judges, officers, employees, representatives, agents, and any party associated with the development of the Contest from any and all liability for any injuries, losses, damages, legal claims, costs, demands, or actions of any kind, arising in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from acceptance, possession, use, or misuse of a prize or participation in this contest. To the maximum extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify the Autry against any liability, claims, demands, losses, damages, costs, and expenses (in each case, whether direct or indirect) resulting from any act, default, or omission by you and/or a breach of warranty by you, or any breach, non-observance, or omission of these rules by you, whether negligent or otherwise. In addition, by entering, you agree that the Autry shall have no liability for any accidental disclosure or identification of any entrants. To the extent permitted by law, the rights to litigate, to seek injunctive relief, or to any other recourse to judicial or any other procedure in case of disputes or claims resulting from or in connection with this Contest, are hereby excluded, and you expressly waive any and all such rights. The Autry, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to disqualify any person tampering with the submission or voting process, the operation of the website, www.theautry.org, or who is otherwise in violation of the rules. The Autry reserves the right to cancel, terminate, or modify the Contest if it is not capable of completion as planned due to, for example, infection by a computer virus, bugs, tampering, unauthorized intervention, or technical failures of any sort. In no event will the Autry be responsible for any damages or losses arising out of access to and use of the websites or the downloading from and/or printing material downloaded from said site. High Five Art Release Form This release form concerns the design produced by (name of applicant) submitted to the Autry Museum of the American West ( the Autry ) for High Five Art, the Autry s outdoor art contest. By signing below, I state my understanding that I have read and fully understand and will comply with the Rules and Conditions of this Contest, which are incorporated herein as if fully set forth herein. If selected, I authorize the Autry to display my submitted image as a banner of up to 49 x 19 in size to be installed on the exterior of the Autry s Griffith Park building; on its website, theautry.org; the Autry Blog; in printed promotional materials; inside the Autry s building; and on the Autry s social media pages.
