NEW MEMBER APPRECIATION AND ORIENTATION NIGHT It has been a number of years since the Liederkranz has hosted a NEW MEMBER Appreciation Night. Since we have added a significant number of new members in recent years, the Board is inviting all new members to a free Brotzeit and beer/wine gathering at the club. Club officers and representatives from our various activity groups--singers, folk dancers, GermanFest, genealogy, cooking/baking, etc. will be present to promote and answer any questions. This is an informal gathering with no requirements other than an RSVP so we can have enough food. Invitations have been sent out to all new members from the last few years. Longer term members are encouraged to attend and meet/welcome the new folks. The event will commence at 6:00 PM on Friday, November 2nd. John Koerner, 429-9251, jabkoerner@aol.com

St. Martin s Day Family Celebration- LAST CALL! Families will gather in the Great Hall at 4:30 p.m. to create lanterns for each child participating. All materials provided. While the lanterns are drying, a snack supper will be served at 5:30 p.m. in the Rathskeller. At 6:30 p.m., we will parade through the St. Anne s Hill neighborhood with our beautiful lanterns, singing the St. Martin s carols. Following the parade, we will meet back at the Liederkranz parking lot for a bonfire, hot chocolate, and a special treat. Please bring lawn chairs, if desired. Suggested donation $12 per family BECAUSE OF THE ADVANCE PREPARATIONS NECESSARY, RSVP IS REQUIRED BY THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 1 Judy Schneider 433-3451 judyschneider64@gmail.com VOTING OPEN Dayton Liederkranz-Turner Outstanding Member of the Year Award 2018 Purpose To encourage, recognize and reward a current member for one or more significant and exceptional

contributions to the Dayton Liederkranz-Turner. Any member in good standing is eligible to vote. You may mail votes to the DLT, leave in the Rathskeller mailbox, or email to John Koerner. Selection Criteria 1. Has demonstrated a consistent dedication to the organization. A single or sustained contribution may qualify. 2. Has demonstrated integrity, cooperative spirit, and service to others in his or her efforts on behalf of the organization. Examples Someone who has demonstrated outstanding support of club events Someone who has provided exceptional leadership in chairing a committee Someone who has provided exceptional leadership on a project Someone who has shown exceptional leadership as a Board member or Someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the community Candidates In accordance with the revised Member of the Year procedures, the Board has authorized candidates for the 2018 award. The candidates are: Andrea Hellickson, Ronald and Jacque Sagasser, Kara Getrost, and Louise Gaertner. All have provided significant contributions to the Liederkranz over the past

year. Brief summaries follow: Andrea Hellickson: Andrea has blessed the Liederkranz with dedication and untiring efforts in establishing Zum Turner Hof Gasthaus as a successful addition to the society. The delicious and authentic German Monday lunches at reasonable prices have added to the culinary reputation of the Liederkranz and filled a gap in local food options. The lunches have brought new attention and people to the society. Ronald & Jacque Sagasser: Ron and Jacque have provided noteworthy support to the Liederkranz for many years. This year they served as Prince and Princess for one of our most successful Fasching parties in many years. They have managed and operated the GermanFest schnitzel production for years and recently added the brat and mett grilling to their operation. Their leadership in these areas extends to other club functions, like Oktoberfest, as well. Kara Getrost: Kara has been not only an exceptional volunteer - being the only member to step forward when the President requested specific help, but seemingly being "Kara on the spot" for so many things that are overlooked --help with the Monday lunches, developing menus, providing publicity, taking reservations, mailing out newsletters, organizing World Cup watching parties, etc. She has established herself as our go to "tech support" person for overseeing digital processing at the GermanFest and for other club functions.

Louise Gaertner: Louise has, in her final year of leading the German Genealogy Group (GGG), established the framework, procedures, and reputation of the GGG to the point that the group is now a pillar of the Liederkranz, and a key component of the annual GermanFest Picnic. She has undertaken special efforts to ensure that the GGG will continue under capable leadership, thereby maintaining this unique aspect of the Liederkranz.
