Marshall Assistant Principals Gloria Mendoza Michael Rutledge Kevin Wiseman Head Counselor Pam Cornelison Instructional Coach Annetta Hadley Guidance Counselors Felicia Dobbs Kathleen Penland Melissa Winn Athletic Director Dale Fullerton Assistant Athletic Director Darren Kelley Director of Music Alan Dropps Date: February 25, 16 To: Clovis Municipal School Board of Education From: Tracy Henderson, CHS DECA Advisor Re: Waiver On December 15, 2015 Clovis High School s DECA Chapter competed at the DECA District level competition and qualified 30 students for the State Competition. On Feb. 22 nd - 24 th qualified students then competed at the state competition where 9 out of 30 students qualified for the International Career Development Conference in Nashville, Tennessee. As DECA advisor I am requesting a wavier of the school-sponsored trip guideline which limits travel exceeding 600 miles to once every three (3) years. I am requesting the wavier for the following reasons: 1. Students competed and qualified at the local level advancing to compete at the state level. 2. The students competed and qualified at state for the ICDC (International Career Development Conference). 3. The event is not only competition based but educational based: a. Workshops teach students how to leverage their DECA experience to their advantage in college, interviews, and internships. b. Workshops focus on igniting a spark in DECA emerging leaders to take their experience to the next level. c. The workshop for student officer will teach the student how to effectively perform roles as an association leader, design effective strategic plans, and employ empowering communication strategies. 4. Attending the ICDC presents a once in a life opportunity to build success, which can be shared with their chapter, school, and community. By allowing our students to advance, compete, and attend workshops at DECA ICDC (International Career Development Conference) in Nashville, Tennessee we are rewarding our students successes, furthering their education and better preparing them for college and career opportunities. Your consideration in this matter is greatly appreciated and I look forward to hearing back from you, Tracy Henderson CHS DECA Chapter
