Research Committee Mission The mission of the UPMC Shadyside Research Committee is to develop an infrastructure for supporting nursing research. Communication, education and collaboration are the central tenets. Moreover, the emphasis is to provide support to nurses aspiring to engage in the research process and to assist and mentor those who are conducting research. 15

Research Committee Vision 1. Increase the Nursing Research, contributing to the science of Nursing. 2. Develop the Department of Nursing Research through education, mentoring, and technology. 3. Formalize a Nursing Research Scholar program to encourage nurses to expand their knowledge and to increase the nursing research studies. 4. To proliferate the number of research mentors. 5. Increase collaboration across UPMC. 16

Research Committee Vision 6. Be an active participant in Research Consortiums nationally. 7. Create a culture of developing multidisciplinary research. 8. Increase the dissemination of research studies through presentations and manuscript writing. 9. Incorporate the new technological discoveries into research designs. 10. Continue to generate nursing research in consonance with the Magnet standards. 11. Advance the progression of the nursing research at UPMC Shadyside to a level that our facility will be recognized as a Center for Excellence in Nursing Research. 17
