EPA WASTE WISE GAME DAY CHALLENGE The University of Akron had the pleasure of participating in the 2011 EPA Waste Wise Game Day Challenge. Participants were assessed in the following five categories: 1. Waste Generation: The school with the lowest per capita waste generation. 2. Diversion Rate: The school with the largest overall (combines trash, recycling, and composting data) recycling rate. 3. Greenhouse Gas Reduction: The school with the largest greenhouse gas reduction. 4. Recycling: The school with the largest recycling rate. 5. Organics Reduction: The school with the largest organic reduction rate. Competition Goals: 1. Lower the waste generated at college football games; 2. Increase participation by students, faculty, staff, and the community in waste reduction programs; and 3. Heighten awareness of waste reduction programs. Note: The following results for the 2011 EPA Waste Wise Game Day Challenge have been categorized by conference (MAC), state (OH), and division (NCAA I) to better illustrate our involvement and overall improvement.
