What are the requirements for the program and do I meet those requirements? What kind of Institutional Approvals and Accreditation does the University or Program have? What are the practicum requirements and when should I plan to take these courses? What degree of effort will I need to make to prepare for and find a site for myself? Are there synchronous requirements? (attend an online lecture at a specific time) or is the program asynchronous (work on you own pace to submit assignments when they re due). Is there group work? Am I comfortable working in groups? 5

Navigating Online Technology What are the technology requirements? For my PC, laptop, cell phone and tablet? Are there video assignments and lectures? Do I need a webcam? What about tests and quizzes? Are they proctored? Does the program use ebooks? Is there an option for a printed book? Navigating Online Is online learning right for you? It is important to be able to experience the online learning environment during the admissions process and prior to starting class, to make sure the environment is cohesive with your learning style and expectations. It is important to seek help from faculty, classmates and university resources when coursework appears difficult or beyond your capacity. Don t be afraid to ask questions or create study groups. Don t stop because you failed one assignment or one course! Tips for Success: Plan ahead! Plan your weeks, know when big assignments are due. Print your term schedule, know when your clinical courses are coming. Put your big personal, professional commitments AND your school calendar in the same place to see conflicts before they happen. Navigating Online Communication with your support team 1 2 Admissions Advisor Your admissions advisor will be your guide and good ones will be there for you long after your first day of class. Student Success Advisor Know your student success advisor, most schools offer dedicated advisors to help you once you completed your admissions process. 3 4 Faculty Don t only rely on your advisor. It s important to communicate with your faculty, especially if you re struggling. Don t be shy! Support Network Your faculty are nurses, professionals, and above all, human... they ve most likely gone through similar struggles. 7
