Course Description This two-day symposium features local, national, and international speakers who are experts in their fields of practice. The intended audience are those who work with acute and critical care patients. Our speakers present the latest evidence based practice for patients throughout the life span. Course Objectives By the end of this two-day seminar, the participant will be able to: 1. Understand how ROTEM works and potential treatments for abnormal ROTEM values. 2. Review the role of the gastrointestinal tract in providing immunocompetence of the host. 3. Define the elements and understand the benefits of the ABCDEF Bundle for patients in the ICU. 4. Understand traumatic brain injury, including intracranial pressure, Glasgow Coma Scale, and Diffuse Axonal Injury. 5. Develop an understanding of mechanical ventilation and acute respiratory failure. 6. Identify escalating behaviors and describe strategies for managing difficult situations. 7. Review the underlying physiology of the inflammatory response following trauma. 8. Discuss post-traumatic inflammatory responses seen with specific injuries. 9. Verbalize the pathophysiology of heart failure. 10. Describe how stroke volume is utilized to predict volume status. 11. Identify treatments for Refractory VFib Arrest. 12. Review the physiologic changes of aging and be able to describe the ICU experience for the Elderly. 13. Identify anatomy and physiology of the genitourinary (GU) system, as well as understanding acute kidney injury and GU emergencies in adult critical care.
