why we matter AN OVERVIEW OF THE A&BC The Arts & Business Council invests in the people and organizations that create the art we love. The A&BC s vision is an integrated and responsive platform of programs and services designed to support and nurture the creative ecosystem. We believe deeply in the value of a thriving creative sector and the importance of investing in the creative workforce that powers it. Our programs and services educate and empower this workforce, while catalyzing valuable and enduring partnerships between the arts and business communities. A result of a merger between the existing Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston and Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts of Massachusetts in 2008, the A&BC has provided several millions of dollars worth of free legal services and thousands of hours of affordable professional development training to artists and arts organizations throughout Massachusetts and beyond. We have graduated over 300 business executives from our board service training program and brought thousands of dollars worth of local art into corporations. And each year in June, our Martinis & Masterpieces event brings together the arts and business communities of Boston to celebrate our vibrant creative economy. OUR PLATFORM APPROACH The A&BC is a resource to our many constituents throughout their careers and development. Our holistic platform approach supports artists and creative entrepreneurs by providing pro bono legal services, career development workshops and webinars, corporate art lending opportunities, and microloans, all the while connecting them to a robust network of contacts and opportunities. With this same holistic approach, we promote viable and sustainable cultural organizations through our platform of programs and services that include fiscal sponsorship, non-profit incorporation services, access to employee benefits, HR and insurance services, and board development resources Recent Results In the past 12 months... Volunteers Lawyers for the Arts assisted approximately 250 artists and arts organizations with their legal needs Hundreds of creative entrepreneurs have attended more than 40 professional development workshops and webinars. Our volunteerism program for executives, Business on Board, graduated over 50 local leaders from our one-day board service training, many of whom now serve on local nonprofit boards. We facilitated more than 400 space listings on SpaceFinder Mass, a free online platform that connects artists to creative spaces for living, working, and performing. Enlivened corporate offices throughout Boston with artwork by dozens of local emerging artists.
The mission of the Arts & Business Council of Greater Boston (A&BC) is to strengthen a vibrant cultural and creative community through a holistic platform of programs, direct services, and advocacy.
