The Catholic Women s League of Canada Military Ordinariate Provincial Council TO: FROM: DATE: MEMO: SUBJECT: Base Councils Presidents, Base Council Organization Chairs, Military Ordinariate Administrative Committee Military Ordinariate Provincial Organization Chair January 3, 2017 # 3 (2016-2018) Annual Reporting, New National Theme, Per Capita Fees, Deadlines for Awards Happy New Year! I hope you all have had a wonderful Christmas and New Year s Holiday and are ready and refreshed to get back to work! I hope and pray that health, and happiness will be yours in 2017! I would like to thank you all for your support and participation in the annual reporting that took place in December, 2016. I received some correspondence from two councils who encountered some technical difficulties, and these small issues were quickly resolved. I am assuming that no news from other base councils means that there were no issues to report. Personally, I completed two annual reports for my own base council and found the process to be very educational and very easy to do. The ladies, who created the surveys, were meticulous in their research and included all aspects of the individual committees, which lead to, what can be described as a sort of examination of conscience. I personally found that there were a lot of areas that I hadn t actioned during my term as council chair and I endeavor to make some changes to rectify this. The new National CWL Theme, Inspired by the Spirit, Women Respond to God s Call has launched and is an inspiring and beautiful theme, rich in symbolism. The National website, www.cwl.ca has promotional material available to be downloaded, including a prayer cards, and posters. They would be great additions to your parish bulletin boards and would be great recruiting tools. As we get back into Catholic Women s League work please make note of the following deadlines: Per Capita Fees Please try to get all membership fees submitted as soon as possible to ensure our members are accounted for and there is no lapse in delivery of the League magazine. Also,

in the case of instructed votes that may arise and take place at our convention, members who are not in good standing, whose membership has not been paid, will be unable to vote. Councils can find the remittance form on the national website, www.cwl.ca, or online registration is also available for base council Organization Chairs. Individual online registration is not available at this time. Kathleen McCrossin Award The nomination application and biography must be completed and sent to me, CWL MO Organization Chair by 15 February 2017. An application form and guideline listing criteria is attached to this memo, and can also be found in the MO Standing rules, Directives and Guidelines; a copy of which can be found on our website. In brief about the award: Kathleen McCrossin was the first president of the (then named) Military Vicariate Provincial Council of the CWL. She was enthusiastic, faith-filled and a very dedicated hard worker who gave freely of her time and energy to the establishment of the CWL. The Kathleen McCrossin Award was established in 2004 to recognize members who have displayed similar attributes through their service and dedication to the Catholic Women s League of Canada, Military Ordinariate Council. Mickey Scott Award In 1996, Terri Scott, a past MO President, donated $1000 to the CWL Military Ordinariate in honour of her deceased husband, Mickey, who was a strong supporter of the CWL. Knowing how enriching a convention experience could be, Terri wanted the money to be used to support the future leaders of the MO CWL. The MO Admin committee created the Mickey Scott Award which they determined would: pay for the registration fee of a member or potential member who has never attended a CWL MO convention. The successful applicant must display a desire to learn about the Catholic Women s League and attend all business and social functions of convention. Nominations must be sent to the CWL MO Treasurer no later than 15 February. The nomination form is found online, www.mocwl.ca and in the MO Standing rules, Directives and Guidelines and is also attached to this memo.

Military Ordinariate Lay Ministry Bursary The Bursary for Lay Ministry will be used to provide financial assistance to MO members of the CWL wishing to pursue courses, seminars or diploma/degree programs that provide training or knowledge that can be used in service at MO base chapels, in MO CWL base councils, or in the MO CWL Administrative Committee. Examples of course subjects include adult faith formation, catechesis, youth ministry, ministry to shut-ins or patients in palliative care; it may also be used for spiritual development programs that may give a member the confidence to take on a leadership role in the CWL. MO CWL Lay Ministry Bursary criteria, guidelines and application form can be found under Resources and Forms. Deadlines for application are due to the MO Treasurer AND the MO Education and Health Chair by 15 February. I hope you and your councils will take advantage of the above opportunities to celebrate and support our members. Yours in Christ, Tawnya Stringer MO Organization Chair, 2016-2018
