The opening of our new Family Birth Center in 2012 offered our local community the option to receive the latest modalities in perinatal and comprehensive birth services in the comfort of the newly inaugurated Women s Center for Life and Health. Since that time, our Neonatal Special Care Unit has cared for the most vulnerable among us, newborns requiring acute care as they take their first breaths in the world. Thanks to an innovative partnership with University of Chicago Medicine Comer Children s Hospital, newborn patients will now have access to the finest pediatric sub specialists in our region right in Little Company of Mary Hospital without the need to transfer to other medical centers. The proceeds from the 2016 Crystal Heart Ball will benefit this expanded partnership and allow our Neonatal Special Care Unit to achieve the highest level of medical accreditation and families can remain together at a critical time in their newborn s young life.
The Venerable Mary Potter Humanitarian Award This award honors an individual who s personal and professional accomplishments embody the ideas, vision and mission of Venerable Mary Potter, who founded the Little Company of Mary Sisters in 1877. Our Founder made a visible and positive difference in the community through praying and caring for the sick and dying as well as providing other social and educational services to the needy. This award is a testament to her gifts of compassion, commitment and empowerment. The Venerable Mary Potter Humanitarian Award will be presented to Choose Kind Kerry Ryan Lynch. Even before she became the mother of a child with special needs, Kerry (Ryan) Lynch exuded a certain selflessness and kindness in all aspects of her life as a wife, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and nurse. To know Kerry is to know what it s like to be in the presence of a truly kind soul. In December 2009, Kerry married her college sweetheart Chris. Two years later, the couple welcomed their first daughter, beautiful Mary Catherine. Mary Cate was born with Apert Syndrome, a congenital disorder characterized by malformations of the skull, face, hands, and feet. During the first year of Mary Cate s life, Kerry earned her warrior badge in her unending care of her infant daughter. Her days were spent intent on improving Mary Cate s quality of life. Lynch is a community awareness organizer and activist whose mission is to inform and inspire local children to be accepting of others differences and educate the public on craniofacial conditions associated with Apert Syndrome. People all over the world have embraced Choose Kind because of Kerry, and we could not be prouder to call this unstoppable force our friend.
