DECATUR FFA/ALUMNI SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENT INFORMATION FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agricultural education. RE: 2015- Decatur FFA Scholarship Dear Senior DHS FFA Applicants; DECATUR FFA/ALUMNI ASSOCIATION is currently accepting applications from eligible Decatur FFA graduating seniors. Our organization is pleased to be able to offer DHS FFA Scholarships for students having completed the 2015 Decatur High School year. To be eligible for the FFA Scholarship a student must meet all criteria necessary to obtain and be awarded funds for continuing their education. FFA Student: 1. Must be a Senior at Decatur High School and eligible for the graduating year. 2. Must have been enrolled in and completed, four (4) school semesters of accredited agriculture classes at Decatur High School. 3. Must have participated and been an active status member of Decatur High School FFA. This requires noted attendance at club meetings, effective participation in FFA related events, FFA Alumni fundraisers (must help and participate) and in the leadership roles offered through FFA in local, district and state levels. 4. Must have parents/ or guardians (approved by the DISD) as active paid members of the DECATUR FFA /ALUMNI ASSOCIATION for the past two (2) years. Parents must have participated and helped with Alumni fundraisers for the past two (2) years. 5. Must have Essay (typed or written/legibly) and Recommendation letter with Application. Recommendation letters must be written by someone other than a current or former parent, family member, teacher, counselor, or school administrator. 6. Students awarded our organizations scholarship must redeem the granted funded amount in the year following graduation. 7. All funds will be redeemed only with receipts issued through the college scholarship recipient is currently attending. The scholarship fund is to be utilized solely for: housing, books, tuition, lab fees, parking permits, and all other accredited school materials. Funds will not be given for any other item not related to collegiate usage. Funds will not be issued to recipient without securing correct receipts for review by organization. All receipts will be sent through the DECATUR FFA/ALUMNI ASSOCIATION. 8. Recipients of the FFA Scholarship will be required to attend the 2015 FFA Auction Banquet, Thursday May 14, 2015 and the DHS Awards Ceremony in May for recognition as award winners. 9. Applicant must be in Official Dress & available for interview. (Set up by committee chairman.)
The criteria for selection for the 2015 FFA Scholarship will be based on the following: STUDENT PACKET CONTAINING THE FOLLOWING ITEMS FOR ELEGIBILITY: 1. Application (1 page front and back) completed. 2. Essay outlining: What FFA has done for me? (ESSAY: 1 margins; 12 pt font; single- line spacing; minimum 300 words) 3. Letter of Recommendation (Recommendation letters must be written by someone other than a current or former parent, family member, teacher, counselor, or school administrator.) 4. Unofficial Transcript showing GPA and Class Rank (Student packets must be complete and submitted by the deadline. Items may not be added to the packet following the deadline for submission. Packets missing any of the above components will be removed from consideration.) Following review of the Student packet for eligibility, the Decatur FFA Alumni Scholarship Committee will obtain/conduct the following to further determine if the student is eligible and to determine scholarship awards: 5. Participation in DHS FFA. 6. Parent/Student involvement in Alumni Activities 7. Agriculture Advisors teacher evaluation 8. Interview (10-15 min.) with Outside Non- Alumni members and three (3) FFA/Alumni members (eligible students will be notified of their interview appointment following review of the student packets) The entry deadline for all applications will be: April 17 th, 2015, NO extensions to this deadline date will be given. Applications must be returned to the counselor s office by 3:00 PM on Friday April 17 th, 2015
