What about the internet Students may sign up as soon as they get their personal computers set up in their rooms. Upon plugging their computer into the data port in their room with a working Ethernet cable and bringing up their preferred internet browser, the student is prompted by our NetReg system for their name, password, and information about their computer. If the page does not come up automatically, students can visit www.uwplatt.edu/its. More information is obtained by visiting www.uwplatt.edu/its or calling the ITS Help Desk at 608.342.1400. You and your roommates Learning to get along with someone you hardly know may be one of your biggest challenges in college. Begin by establishing a pattern of open communication and cooperation with your roommate. Take time to share your reactions to some of the following sentence leads. This activity will help the two of you pinpoint areas for negotiation: The background I come from is... Where do you study? What I miss most and least about home is... What noise can you tolerate while studying? I came to UW-Platteville because... I think drinking is... This year, I m most looking forward to... I think drug use is... This year, I am worried about... Some things I feel strongly about are... I like to spend money on... For me, making friends is... I like to sleep at these times... Something that is likely to annoy me is... I need approximately hours of sleep each night. You can use these belongings of mine When do you get up in the morning? These items of mine are off limits... When do you go to sleep at night? Are we going to share food? Do you fall asleep with music or the fan on? How will we handle weekend guests? The grades I hope to earn this semester are... Do you have a significant other? My typical approach to studying is... When will that significant other be allowed to visit? These discussion topics may seem trivial, but many roommates split over such issues. Please take the time to discuss these items with your roommate soon after you meet. Do not assume that your roommate knows your living style, even if you are already friends. If you have concerns about your roommate s Facebook page, it doesn t mean you won t be able to live as roommates. **NOTE: Resident assistants are a great resource for community building. Don t hesitate to ask for help if roommate issues arise.

Parking permits Parking permits can be purchased through University Police. Information on how to purchase permits can be found at www.uwplatt.edu/police. Remember: permit enforcement in all parking lots and streets will be enforced upon your arrival to campus. It will not be an acceptable defense for a parking ticket if you haven t yet received your permit in the mail. Bike lockers If you sent in a bike locker reservation online, you may pick up your key at the front desk of your residence hall during desk hours. The cost is $30 per semester, $40 for Rountree Commons. Bikes cannot be stored in the residence halls. Mopeds and motorcycles will not fit in the bike lockers. Don t forget to register your bike with University Police in Brigham Hall and receive a free bike license.

The meal plan is activated once your contract is received. A Pioneer Passport is needed at all Dining Services locations. Your passport has a magnetic strip processed through a computer to pay for your transactions. Where do I go if I have problems with my meal plan? The Meal Access Office is located in the Markee Pioneer Student Center. Email mao@uwplatt.edu or call 608.342.1404. What if I have misplaced or lost my Pioneer Passport? The Pioneer Passport office, located on the second floor of the Markee Pioneer Student Center, can make a new card and deactivate the missing card. The cost for replacing your ID is $20. Call 608.342.1449 with questions. Telephone service Local phone service is not provided as part of the residence hall room rent. Students may use their own cell phone, TracFone, or contract their own local service.
