DELIVERY Deliver your items to DIY Design Studio at the LA County Fair on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 8:00am - 5:00pm Enter through Gate 1. No entries will be accepted after 5pm. OR If you are mailing your entries via UPS, they must be received by Thurs., May 31, 2018 by 4:00pm Please include a duplicate copy of your entry form with your shipment. LA County Fair / DIY Design Studio 1101 W. McKinley Ave. Pomona, CA 91768 VISIT Visit your entries on display from August 31 - September 23, 2018 Closed Mondays (except Labor Day) & Tuesdays DIVISIONS Please refer to the following pages for more information on our divisions. FEES Entry Fees are $2.00 Unless otherwise stated $5.00 Christmas Tree Decorating Contest (No Entry Fee for Make A Child Smile or Route 66) A $25.00 penalty will be assessed for returned checks. PICK UP Pick up will be at the same location as drop off, and must be picked up on Wed., September 26, 2018 from 8:00am - 7:00pm If entries are not picked up they will be donated to charity. DISPLAY POLICY The LA County Fair reserves the right to limit items for display to the facilities available. All entries will be on display. The Fair assumes total design control over the presentation of exhibits. The design staff shall determine location and placement of exhibits. No exhibit changes will be made after the items are on display. All reasonable care will be taken in handling and displaying exhibits, but the LA County Fair assumes no responsibility for loss or damage whatsoever the cause. Submitting an exhibit implies acceptance of this rule. If insurance is desired, the exhibitor must carry it. AWARDS Ribbons will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners. Best of Show Rosette and $165.00 premium awarded to one winner chosen from all first place winners in each division, except Costumer s Guild West Authentic Costume. See specific competition information for those divisions. These awards are granted at the discretion of the judges. JUDGING The Danish System of Judging is used in the DIY Design Studio unless otherwise stated. The judging process is based upon established standards of quality for each type of product. In this system, each exhibit is judged according to how well it meets those standards rather than how it compares with the other exhibits. Judges shall avoid unnecessary fraternization with exhibitors. No person shall be allowed, under any circumstances, to interfere with the judge, or judges, during their adjudications, or with the Fair s staff, or to offer any criticism of any exhibit of another. NO JUDGING INFORMATION WILL BE GIVEN BY TELEPHONE OR MAIL. The judges may award first, second, third place, etc., according to merit. If without merit, the judges shall make no award under any circumstances. This rule applies whether there are one or more exhibits in the class. THE JUDGES DECISIONS SHALL BE FINAL. QUESTIONS? COSTUMER S GUILD WEST, Inc. AUTHENTIC COSTUME DIVISION 2300 AWARDS Based upon the Group or Danish judging system, Best in Show & all 1 st places will be awarded a CGW Membership. Additional awards of Costume College scholarships will be awarded at the discretion of the selection committee. RULES Entry must have been completed within the last two years, since July 1 st, 2016. Note that completion date does not affect the start date of an item. Entry must not have been entered in the Costumer s Guild West competition previously. If the judges feel that a costume has been entered in the wrong category, they reserve the right to move it to a more appropriate category. All entries must include the following documentation, which will not be returned. Any entry without required documentation may be disqualified A 4x6 or 8x10 photo of the costume being worn, including all accessories. An essay describing the character, inspiration, or historical context of the costume. Optional additional documentation can include design elements, description of techniques used, photos of construction in progress, photos of finished costume in use, and anything you d like to bring to the judge s attention. Class 1 Reproduction Manga/Anime /Video Game: Costumes reproduced from graphic novels, Japanese-style animation or video games. Class 2 Original or Reproduction Science Fiction/Fantasy: Costumes from tv, film, novels, or the designer s imagination in the realm of the future or any fantasy universe. Class 3 Theatrical: Costumes designed for the stage or screen. Documentation should explain any technique that is specific to distance or film viewing. Class 4 - Historical Interpretation: Fabrics and sewing techniques need not be historically accurate, but should attempt to look historical, creating the effect of the historical period, rather than reproducing an authentic garment. Class 5- Historical Reproduction (garment that could have been worn in chosen period): Fabrics must be as historically accurate as possible with available modern textiles. Visible (both inside and outside) sewing and finishing techniques must be historically accurate, but hand-sewing the complete garment is not required. Historical under-garments required to create the accurate historical look should be noted in documentation or included with entry. DIY Entry Rules 1. Entry form must be legible and complete with fees in order to be accepted. 2. There are no refunds of entry fee. See competition or contest for individual entry fee. 3. Receipt of entry form will not be acknowledged, except for contests. Please include entry fee with the entry form. Entry forms received without the entry fee will be returned. 4. You must be 18 years or older to enter, unless otherwise stated. 5. If exhibitors are under 18 and would like to enter their DIY projects at the fair, visit www.lacf.com/competitions for information on America s Kids Competitions. 6. Entries accepted from INDIVIDUALS ONLY, unless otherwise stated. 7. All articles entered must be the handiwork of the exhibitor. If, in the opinion of management, an article had previously been entered, the Fair reserves the right to withhold the item from judging and display. Items can only be entered in the LA County Fair once. 8. Only items listed and described on the entry form will be accepted for judging. 9. Delivery of all entries is on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. only. If you are unable to drop off your entry at this time you may send someone in your place or mail your item via UPS. All mailed entries must arrive by 4 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018. 10. Fairplex will not be responsible for returning display hardware i.e. hangers, etc. 11. Articles that are stained or soiled or articles showing obvious signs of wear or use will be disqualified. Fair reserves the right to reject any exhibit or entry, if there is anything objectionable, unsuitable, or requires more space than can be given, or is in conflict with exhibit requirements. 12. All articles must not exceed 25 pounds, have sturdy hardware and be ready to hang. Articles designed for hanging that are not so-equipped will be displayed in a manner deemed appropriate by the Fair. 13. In classes calling for any, specify or other than listed, specify be sure to indicate on the entry form the type of item being entered. 14. Identification tags will be issued for all items entered and exhibitors will be given a claim check for each item. 15. Fairplex will not be liable for any entry. 16. Pick up of all entries is on Wednesday, September 26, 2018 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. only. If you are unable to pick up your entry at this time you may send someone in your place. Claim checks are required. If entries are not picked up then they will be donated to charity.

17. No person shall be an exhibitor or sign the entry form as an agent at the LA County Fair in any department if they are a manager, director, association member, department head, or paid employee. 18. The Los Angeles County Fair Association reserves the right to amend and add to these rules and empowers the Executive Committee with the final and absolute right to interpret all rules and regulations and arbitrarily settle and determine all matters, questions and differences in regard thereto. 19. The LA County Fair pays premiums ONLY in those divisions and/or classes specifically listed. Premium checks will be mailed within six (6) weeks following the close of the LA County Fair. The LA County Fair is not responsible for redemption of premiums. 20. Any exhibitor who wins over $600.00 dollars or more in premiums or prizes must complete a W-9 form before checks are distributed in compliance with IRS regulations. A 1099 MISC will be issued to those exhibitors. 21. UPS RETURN INFORMATION: a. Exhibitors who send articles to the Fair and wish to have them returned via UPS must enclose a check for $20.00 with their entry form and indicate that it is for a UPS return. b. Articles will be returned by October 31, 2018. c. Breakable, fragile or extremely heavy articles will NOT be returned by UPS; such items MUST be picked up. d. Size of the item must not exceed 130 inches in length and girth combined. e. Proper packaging materials MUST accompany all exhibits that are to be shipped back.
