In the year 2006 the National Health Information Center in Bratislava publishes publications in edition of Health Statistics, which originate from the Statistical Health Information System, Health Yearbook of Slovak Republic 2005 and other extraordinary publications. The publications will be available electronically or in a printed form for users in range of the Ministry of Health, and possibly to other users after processing and publishing the results of individual statistical surveillances of the year 2005. The reviews of the recently released publications with their briefs are placed on the website of the Centre www.nczisk.sk. Edition Health Statistics Out-patient Dermatology Care (ZŠ-23/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Annual Report on Activity of Dermatology Out-patient Units. The publication contains information on activity of dermatology out-patient units, on number of registered and newly reported patients with skin diseases till the end of the monitored year by selected diagnoses. Data are published for Slovak Republic and its regions. Out-patient Care for Children and Adolescents (ZŠ-26/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Annual Report on Activity of Out-patient Units for Children and Adolescents. The publication contains data on sorts of examinations care of children and adolescents, on number of diseases of dispensarized children and adolescents by the main groups of IDC-10 in Slovak Republic and individual regions and activities of specialized paediatric out-patient units. Out-patient Care Pneumology and Ftiseology (ZŠ-21/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Annual Report on Activity of Pneumology and Ftiseology Out-patient Units. The publication contains data on number of persons monitored for tuberculosis, newly reported diseases, recurrences and deaths on tuberculosis, results of x-ray examinations in Slovak Republic and in regions. It offers trend lines of certain data from 1985 to 2005. 3

Activity of Anesthesiology and Intensive Medicine (ZŠ-34/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Annual Report on Activity of Anesthesiology and Intensive Medicine. The publication contains data on the number of departments, out-patient units, beds and working categories. Further it contains data on anesthesiology and intensive care, and trend lines of certain indicators from 1994 to 2005. Data are published for Slovak Republic and regions. Activity of Diabetologic Out-patient Units (ZŠ-11/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Annual Report on Activity of Diabetologic Out-patient Units. The publication offers statistical data on activity of diabetologic out-patient units, on number and age structure of the registered diabetics, duration of diseases, number of examinations and structure of treatment in Slovak Republic and its regions. It contains trend lines of certain indicators since 1980. Activity of Clinical Oncology (ZŠ-46/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Annual Report on Activity of Department and Out-patient Unit for Clinical Oncology. The publication contains data on the structure of facilities and working places, on departments and out-patient units of clinical oncology, on number of patients and examinations, treatment and costs of medication. The publication is supplemented with incidence and mortality trend lines of the most frequent tumor diseases. Dispensarized Care in Cardiology Out-patient Units (ZŠ-22/2006) The publication represents data from the Annual Report of Cardiology Out-patient Units on the national, county and regional levels of Slovak Republic. It contains data about number and prevalence of dispensarized patients with circulatory system disorders up to 31.12.2005. A part of the information is the closing valid for 1.1.2005, moreover data on newly admitted patients in 2005. 4

Substance Dependence Drug User Treatment (ZŠ-44/2006) The publication is released since 1994. Basis for processing statistical data is the Report on the Drug User Treatment. The publication contains data on clients with dependence on illegal substances with treatment offered to improve psychological, medical and social status of individuals searching aid in problems with substance abuse. Data are classified by the pattern of primary substance, sex, age groups, way of administration, and territorial split of care providers and permanent address of the client (county, region). Occupational Diseases or Threats from Occupational Disease (ZŠ-6/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Report on Occupational Disease or Threat from Occupational Disease. The publication informs about incidence and evolution of reported diseases by sex, age groups, and classes of economic activities, profession and county of the care facility. Balneology Care (ZŠ-8/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Report on Closed Balneology Treatment. The publication contains data on the number of cured patients (domestic, foreigners in natural healing spa facilities in Slovak Republic. Data are sorted by the list of indications for balneology care, reimbursement of the stay, result of the treatment, and sex. It shows the trend line of treated patients in Slovak Republic since 1996. Nephrology Care and Kidney Function Substituting Treatment (ZŠ-31/2006) A A Basis for processing statistical data is the Annual Report on Nephrology Care and Treatment Substituting Kidney Functions. The publication contains data on personnel and technical equipment of the facilities, on dispensarized patients with risk factors, on outputs of dialysis treatment, and activities of nephrology out-patient units in a county comparison. It contains trend lines of certain indicators since 1994. 5

6 Emergency Surgical Help at Certain Diseases (ZŠ-10/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Annual Report on Emergency Surgical Help at Certain Diseases. The publication lists data on the number of emergency surgical operations at certain diseases by the county of the health care facility. It contains time data on the waiting period from admission to surgery, and trend lines on number of performed emergency surgical help at certain diseases since 1985. Sexually Transmitted Diseases (ZŠ-1/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Report on Sexually Transmitted Diseases. The publication contains information on sexually transmitted diseases by sort (first illness, recurrence, reinfection, chronic, and recognized at death), by sex, age groups, marital status, economic activity, diagnosis, territorial split of the permanent address (county, region), and on reported diseases by health care facilities. Abortions (ZŠ-7/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Application for Induced Interruption of Pregnancy and Abortion Report. The publication presents data on the number of abortions according to type of abortion, number of live born children prior to the abortion, age and weight of the foetus, age group, marital status, education level, and territorial split of the mothers permanent addresses and territorial split of the reported abortions. It contains trend line of the abortions since 1960. Psychiatric Care (ZŠ-4/2006) A A A Basis for processing statistical data is the Statistical Card of Patient Admitted to Psychiatric Establishment, Annual Report on Activities of Hospital Psychiatric Department, Psychiatric Hospital and Psychiatric Medical Institution and Annual Report on Activities of Psychiatric Out-patient Units. The publication contains data on the network of psychiatric care facilities and bed fund. It contains review of professional activity in psychiatric out-patient care units, and registered patients by diagnosis, sex and age groups. It presents further data on patients hospitalized in psychiatric facilities split by county and region sorted by sex, age groups, and groups of psychiatric diagnosis, length of stay, education and working status of the patient.

Suicides and Suicidal Attempts (ZŠ-5/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Report on Reasons and Circumstances of Intentional Self-injury. The publication contains data on the type of intentional self-injury, mode of its provision, groups of psychiatric diagnoses, motive of act, place and time of provision, sorted by sex, age groups, marital status, education level, economic activity, territorial split of permanent address, and place of intentional self-injury report. Common Diagnostic and Curative Facilities (ZŠ-48/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Annual Report on Activity of the Clinical Biochemistry Department, Annual Report on Activity of Nuclear Medicine Department, Annual Report on Activity of the Physiatric-rehabilitative Department, Annual Report on Activity of the Radiology, Annual Report on Activity of the Hematology and Transfusion Department, Annual Report on Activity of the Pathologic Anatomy Department. The publication contains: - data on structure of examinations, and working posts, - data on number of patients and particular types of examination, - data on number of registered patients and their split by type of diagnosis and class groups. Female Care (ZŠ-14/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Annual Report on Gynaecologyobstetric Care and Annual Report on Activity of the Gynaecology Out-patient Unit. The publication presents data on number and type of gynaecologic examinations, on number and type of methods, information on contraception usage, on the national and county level. Further it contains statistical data on number of deliveries and types of obstetric surgeries, and other indicators of obstetrical care. It shows trend lines of certain indicators since 1985. Dental Care (ZŠ-15/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Annual Report on Dental Care. The publication contains data on number of examinations and provided types of services in dentistry out-patient units, and informs on systematic 7

care on dentition of children and adolescents. Data are presented by territory county of the health care facility. Paramedical Schools in the School Year 2005/2006 (ZŠ-12/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Report on Grammar School Special Secondary School Conservatory, and Report on Boarding Homes. The publication contains data on state and ecclesiastic secondary paramedical schools, on trends of full-time study, extramural study, on number of schools, classes, students, graduates, and teachers, specialty domains in total and by county. It presents data on boarding homes, number of beds, accommodated students and educators. Statistics on Hospitalized Patients (ZŠ-25/2006) Basis for processing statistical data is the Report on Hospitalization. The publication contains data on demography, number of beds, number of hospitalized persons, and on death causes with the biggest share on the mortality in Slovak Republic. The publication in this design is released since 1987. Publications from the hospital statistics are available yet since 1966 (however contain only data on discharged patients). Congenital Disorders (ZŠ-3/2006) A A Basis for processing statistical data is the Report on Congenital Disorder. The publication contains data on live births and still births with congenital anomalies, on induced abortions due to prenatal recognized congenital disorder of the foetus. Data are sorted by diagnosis, sex, weight, height of the foetus, week of the pregnancy, age, and permanent address of the mother. 8

Edition Yearbooks Health Yearbook of Slovak Republic A The National Health Information Center keeps releasing the health yearbook, which is tied to information from previous years. The Yearbook contains data from National Centre for Health Information Bratislava, Statistical Bureau of Slovak Republic, Regional Office of the Public Health Office Banská Bystrica, Institute of Tuberculosis, Respiratory Diseases and Chest Surgery Vyšné Hágy, Social Insurance, National Oncology Institute Bratislava, Institute for School Information and Prognosis Bratislava and WHO. It is a cross-section publication on Slovak Republic in 2005 split in following chapters: 1. Demography, 2. Health status of the population, 3. Network and activities of health care facilities, 4. Employees and health care education, 5. Economic indicators, 6. International comparisons, 7. Attachments. 9

Edition Medical Library SlLK Info MedLib. Bulletin SlLK The Bulletin of the Slovak Medical Library (SlLK) Info MedLib brings articles about activity of the Slovak Medical Library and medical libraries in Slovak Republic. In the frame of regular articles it offers updated information in range of library IT and educational activity. An alphabetical and keyword index is included. It is released biannually. Under this title it is published since 2000 as the successor of the bulletin Methodical Informant, which used to be released since 1966. Statistical activity preview of Medical Libraries 2005 Preview of the library activities in Slovak Republic in text and spreadsheets evaluates the activity and results of medical libraries in the reported year. A comparison of trends to previous year is the part of content. This statistical summary is an output of the annual reports on library KULT (Ministry of Culture SR) 10-01. List of periodicals ordered and delivered to SlLK in 2006 The list of all ordered and delivered periodicals for SlLK. It views the domestic and foreign periodicals ordered and delivered to the Slovak Medical Library in 2006. List of the foreign biomedical periodicals delivered to Slovak Republic in 2006 The list is a printed output from the automated base of foreign biomedical periodicals ordered and delivered to the medical libraries across Slovak Republic. This list is being created in SlLK since 1990. It offers a view through the foreign biomedical periodicals. A keyword index and list of acronyms is included. 10

Edition Analytical publications Evolution of Health Status of the Population in Slovak and Czech Republics The publication presents comparison of the basic demographic indicators and health status of the populations in the period of 1994 2004, i. e. after the split of Czechoslovakia. The publication contains chapters on demography, health status, network of health care facilities, and employees. It is prepared in mutuality with the Institute of Health Information and Statistics of the Czech Republic. Incidence of malignant tumors in 2003 SR A A Basis for analysis of statistical data is the Report on Malignant Tumors, Checklist Report, and Death Certificate of all patients in Slovak Republic in 2003 with a recognized malignant tumor (ICD-10; C00-C97), carcinoma in situ (D00-D09), neoplasm of uncertain or unknown behavior (D37-D48) or nonmalignant tumors of CNS (D32-D33, D36) and endocrine glands (D34- D35). The publication contains standard outputs in absolute and relative indicators concerning incidence of malignant tumors on the national and county levels. 11
