MANITOWOC COUNTY CIVIL WAR ROUND TABLE Scholarship Program 2019 The Manitowoc County Civil War Round Table is pleased to announce its annual scholarship program for seniors in Wisconsin high schools. The $1,000 pool of scholarship(s) has been established to assist graduates in the postsecondary education. The funding for the scholarship comes from the generosity and efforts of the members of the Round Table. The Round Table is an organization dedicated to advancing knowledge of the Civil War and its effects upon us to this day. We have organized to honor and commemorate the memory of the Manitowoc Guards, the first company of volunteers to leave Manitowoc County in 1861 and to fight in the Civil War and to all those who followed. It is our wish to inspire applicants to share in that educational mission as they use the defining pillars of Remembrance, Service, and Devotion. To be eligible for the scholarship: 1. The applicant must be a graduating senior from a Wisconsin High School with plans to continue his/her education at a post-secondary institution. 2. The applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 2.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale). 3. The applicant must return the Application Form postmarked by no later than March 30 th. 4. If selected to go the second round to complete a15-20 minute in person interview. Usually held during the first half of April taking place in the County of Manitowoc approximately between 6pm and 8pm. 5. Be able to volunteer for Civil War Days at Pinecrest Village in Manitowoc June 1 st and 2 nd a total of not less than 8 hours per $250 awarded. The only change of date for volunteering will be conflicts with your graduation weekend and then what you can select to volunteer for will be very limited. Selection 6. Members of the MCCWRT are invited to form the interview panel. 7. The selection committee shall be comprised of board members of the MCCWRT. 8. The Committee will select the applicants that will receive an interview. Not every applicant will receive an interview. 9. You will be notified by e-mail f you are selected to participate in the interview. 10. The winner(s) of the scholarship will be notified of the scholarship awarded If selected we will discus what area you would want to volunteer in. Areas to volunteer are numerous and range from everything from working with Civil War artillery, infantry, music, (singing or playing an instrument,) cooking, or serving food. It is our intention to help students learn the value of volunteering while providing an opportunity to develop life skills. The scholarship award will be presented to the student after completing the volunteer hours and after successful completion of his/her first semester at college. Successful completion shall be defined as passing all classes and having a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. All applicants will receive a membership in the MCCRT for one year.
