July 2006 Gamma Chapter s Going for the Gold! Janice Smiley, Professional Develpment Chair Hello from Janice Smiley, your friendly fundraiser! First of all, I would like to say thank you to each of you who have contributed to the National Development Fund/Endowment Campaign. Our national goal is to reach $500,000 by 2008. Oregon Gamma Chapter members have given strong support to this effort. We have pledged or given $9,800 to date! On the local level, I d like to make a special plea. Please help our chapter raise some funds for some pretty important items: 1. Gamma Chapter Scholarships! Let s help our chapter members out! More than 30 have been selected in the past 10 years to present seminars or poster presentations at the ESP National Meeting. Your contribution will help strengthen our chapter scholarship fund to support those who wish to continue participating at the national level. 2. Gamma Chapter s pledge to the National Development Fund/Endowment Campaign! Our Chapter pledge is significant and we have faith that you will help us raise $1,000 over the next 3 years to support the endowment. This year, the goal is to contribute $500 towards the campaign. Page 2 Remember, what we give now comes back to our own members in the form of scholarships and grants. Over the years, Gamma Chapter members have received over $10,000 in grants and conference registration support. 3. Supporting Oregon s own National President! Duane Johnson will assume the National ESP President position in 2008. Your Gamma Chapter Board would like to support Duane in a couple of ways. First, we would like to hold a President s Reception at the 2008 Galaxy Conference. Second, it is customary for the outgoing President to purchase the National President s Key with the support of his/her chapter. Duane s turn will be at the 2008 Galaxy Conference and your Board is hoping to make it the largest purchase price ever! All proceeds from the purchase go back into the Development Fund as dedicated funds for our chapter, so everyone truly wins. Please say YES and support your local Gamma Chapter fundraising effort. Thank you in advance and hope to see you at our chapter meeting in September! CONTRIBUTE NOW! THANK YOU Gamma Chapter National Fund Campaign Contributors (thru 6/8/06): Roberta Frasier Anderson John Baggott Don Berry Harold M. At the recent JCEP (Joint Council of Extension Professionals) meeting, a majority of the board passed a motion to have only two locations for the 2008-09 JCEP Regional Leadership Workshops; the Northeast will combine with the South and the West will combine with North Central. The reasons given for this move include the small numbers of persons in the West and Northeast Regions attending the leadership conference. Now JCEP will need to decide the location of those meetings. Stay tuned for more information. Join OSU Extension ESP Gamma Chapter Take advantage of the many opportunities of ESP membership.
