ABOUT ROTARY
HISTORY Rotary began as an idea more than 100 years ago, founded in 1905 by Paul Harris. Today, Rotary flourishes worldwide with 1.2 million members in more than 200 countries and geographical areas.
THE OBJECTIVE OF ROTARY Encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster: 1 st Development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service; 2 nd High ethical standards in business and professions 3 rd Application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life; 4 th Advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace
AVENUES OF SERVICE Club Service focuses on strengthening fellowship and ensuring the effective functioning of the club. Vocational Service encourages Rotarians to serve others through their vocations and to practice high ethical standards. Community Service covers the projects and activities the club undertakes to improve life in its community. International Service encompasses actions taken to expand Rotary s humanitarian reach around the globe and to promote world understanding and peace. New Generation Service recognizes the positive change implemented by youth and young adults through leadership development activities as RYLA, Rotaract and Interact, service projects, and creating international understanding with Rotary Youth Exchange.
THE FOUR WAY TEST For Rotary, The Four-Way Test is the cornerstone of all action, the things we think, say or do The test was developed in 1932 by Herbert J. Taylor. It is not based on culture or religion. It is a simple checklist for ethical behavior.
