Lane Cribb, Sheriff 430 North Fraser Street Georgetown, South Carolina 29440 News Release Contact: Carrie Cuthbertson, Public Information Officer, (843) 436-6049 For Immediate Release July 17, 2014 OPERATION BEACH SWEEP LEADS TO TWENTY-ONE (21) ARRESTS IN 36 HOURS (Georgetown, SC) ---On July 15-17, 2014, thirty-five (35) law enforcement officers from the 15 th Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU), the Georgetown County Sheriff s Office, the Georgetown City Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATF) spread out over Georgetown and Horry Counties to serve approximately fifty (50) drug distribution warrants, arresting twenty-one (21) individuals. The arrests were a result of a yearlong investigation initiated by the 15 th Circuit DEU, assisted by DEA and SLED, into Heroin sales in Georgetown County, specifically in the Pawleys Island Community. Agents worked for several months on Operation Beach Sweep to obtain the arrest warrants, and a search warrant, that they believe will significantly affect the Heroin distribution in Georgetown County. A search warrant was executed at 229 Green Drive in the Pawleys Island Community of Georgetown County which led to the arrest of Andiza Simmons, 39, for Possession of Heroin, Drug Paraphernalia and two (2) Counts of being a Felon in Possession of a Handgun. Melinda Green, 35, was also arrested at the scene and charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. The search warrant, along with the other arrest warrant services, resulted in the seizure of over $12,000.00 cash, over sixty-seven (67) grams of crack cocaine, and several grams of Heroin, along with powder cocaine and marijuana packaged for sale. Agents also discovered several marijuana plants which were part of a marijuana grow. Agents also discovered a loaded.380 handgun and two (2) loaded 9 mm handguns during the operation. Several additional suspects are still being sought and the investigation is continuing. Judge Pyatt denied bond for Christopher and Elijah Tony Brown, identified as two (2) of the main targets of the investigation as well as Kwamane Smith who was already out on bond for Attempted Murder and Kidnapping related to a drug dispute earlier this year in the City of Georgetown. The 15 th Circuit Drug Enforcement Unit is made up of officers from the Georgetown County Sheriff s Office, the Georgetown Police Department, the 15 th Circuit Solicitor s Office, the Myrtle Beach Police Department, the North Myrtle Beach Police Department, the Horry County Police Department, the Aynor Police Department, the Conway Police Department, the Horry County Sheriff s Office and the Coastal Carolina University Police Department.
