Not long ago, I heard about a Christian Challenge: To find five things every day of the month of November, to be thankful for. And then, to make note of them in a way that is shared with others. I invite you to join in that challenge. It is completely in keeping with what we know to be true. The goodness of God is so remarkable an abundance of miracles, major and minor, that enrich our lives and strengthen our faith. What must it have been like, to have been one of Christ s twelve disciples, to have awakened every morning to the presence of Christ. To have heard His voice and followed His path and seen and heard His remarkable message of God s love, forgiveness and compassion? Perhaps if we could have done that, and were with the Lord as He healed the sick and made the afflicted whole, we might have sensed what a tremendous blessing it is to be with Jesus. The closest we can get is by being with Jesus through the fellowship of believers. To gather together as Christ s first followers gathered, to consider God s Word as revealed in Scripture, to offer God our praise, and to seek to go and do what we have seen Jesus doing. We accomplish that by gathering in worship together. God is ready and waiting for you, inviting you to be today s disciples, as you come to worship on Sundays and as you share in the ongoing ministries and missions of Wekiva Presbyterian Church. Make it your November Thanksgiving discipline this year to find five reasons you are thankful each day. Make a record of them, and try not to repeat those things on your list. By Thanksgiving Day, you will have a volume of thankfulness. And make it your November Thanksgiving discipline this year to be in worship every Sunday, so that the blessings of God might be yours, here in God s house. You do not have to understand All of God s ways He does not expect you to understand them. You do not expect your children to understand everything you do You simply want them to trust you. And someday, you too will see the glory of God In the things you do not understand. Yours in Christ, WE RE ON THE WEB! WWW.WEKIVAPRESBYTERIAN.ORG John A. Dalles, Pastor

P a g e 2 G l a d T i d i n g s C o r n e r As we start to wind down the end of the year, there are still plenty of opportunities to participate! I want to challenge each youth to write a gratitude list each night; write down 3 things that you are grateful for. You can share them with your family or keep them to yourself. Remember that a positive outlook keeps you moving forward. Important Dates: Nov. 4 - Both groups meet Nov. 11 - Fellowship Lunch Nov. 14 - Youth Committee - 7pm Sarah's office - we are still looking for members-at-large to join Nov. 18 - Both groups meet Nov. 25 - Happy Thanksgiving For those looking ahead to December: Dec. 2 - Hanging of the Greens Service Dec. 9 - Christmas Crafting Corner Both Youth Groups will meet (this is a change from the calendar I sent out) Dec. 16 - Adopt-A-Family shopping and Christmas Party Dec. 19 - Youth Committee - 7pm Sarah's office Dec. 21-23 - Live Nativity (will need a couple volunteers for each night) The calendar is on the church website www.wekivapresbyterian.org under Children & Youth, Middle & High School. This is a Google calendar and can be synced to your personal calendar. Please take a moment to do so; that way you will always be up-to-date with all events and any last minute additions/changes. You can also find us on Facebook - there should be a link to do so on the website. L o n g w o o d, F l o r i d a P a g e 3 C C C B o o k F a i r Join us for the Scholastic Book Fair November 6-9 in Education Hall! We will also be hosting an Almost Bedtime Story night on November 7 at 7 p.m. Come enjoy bedtime stories, shop and enjoy cookies and milk. 407-862-8445 Wekiva Area Congregations Share in Thanksgiving Celebration Wednesday, November 21, 7 p.m. At Sanlando United Methodist Church ~ Highway 434 As has become our tradition, our congregation unites with sister churches in the Wekiva area to celebrate Thanksgiving together in a festive worship service on the night before Thanksgiving Day. This year, our friends at Sanlando United Methodist Church are hosting the event with Jonathan Tarman, preaching that evening. The music at this service is always festive and inspirational. Please plan to attend, and share in giving thanks to God for our many blessings and support the Christian Sharing Center. An offering to benefit the Sharing Center will also be received.

P a g e 4 G l a d T i d i n g s N u r t u r i n g N o t e s As I turn my calendar to November, my thoughts turn to Thanksgiving. What will I cook? Where will we eat? How many will be here? Stuffing and/or mashed potatoes? This year I hope to make a different kind of Thanksgiving, one with the emphasis on the thanks. Everyday we are surrounded by blessings from God. Big blessings and small but it is so easy to take them for granted or assume it is good luck or that we are entitled to those blessings. This year, I am going to try to be very aware of all of these blessings and to thank God for every blessing filled day rather than worry about what we will eat for dinner on Thanksgiving Day. Won t you join me? M i s s i o n & B e n e v o l e n c e Christmas Is Coming! Let s Prepare! Sunday, November 18 Alternative Gift Market In Reception Hall after each service! Many of our mission recipients such as Loaves & Fishes, Christian Help, St. Andrews Society, Christian Sharing Center, Heifer International and others will participate. Give a meaningful gift and help others at the same time! The Angel Tree will be set up November 18th and you may pick a gift request from a needy child. Thank you for your participation! Special Dates in November November 8 ~ Caring Friends of Wekiva November 5-9 ~ November 11 ~ Veteran s Day November 18 ~ Thanksgiving Sunday November 18 ~ Christmas Alternative Gift Market November 21 ~ Thanksgiving Ecumenical Service (Sanlando United Methodist Church) November 22 ~ Happy Thanksgiving Day!

L o n g w o o d, F l o r i d a P a g e 5 GOOD NEWS FROM PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN In this month of Thanksgiving, we are so grateful for all of you who contributed to and attended our Festival of Tables World Tour. It was a gala evening with clever table decorations, good music from Gary, Ramona s cooking and lots of socializing. Thank you also for your generous donations to the Thank Offering. Our PW ladies are always so supportive of this offering which women throughout the PC(USA) support each year. If you didn t get a chance to donate, and would like to do so, please see Kathy Sinclair or your circle leader. Checks should be made out to Wekiva PW. SAVE THE DATE!!!! - Our annual Christmas plant sale will be on Sunday, December 2nd. Martha Newhart is in charge, so let her know if you have special plant requests. If you won t be at church on the 2nd, you can still buy plants. Look for more information about that later this month. You can pay by check, cash or at the kiosk. Please keep knitting and crocheting for the chemo patients at Florida Hospital Altamonte. Hat, lap blankets, and prayer shawls are all welcomed. You can leave finished products in the front office or with any PW Coordinating Team member. PW maintains the Prayer Chain. You may send your prayer request directly to wekivaprayerchain@gmail.com

P a g e 6 G l a d T i d i n g s A l w a y s o n P a g e S i x September Session Summary By Hattie Wainwright, The Church Mouse Hello Wekivans! Yes, it is I, Hattie! You have been wondering where I have been. Not to London to visit the Queen, for sure, although with all the royal weddings this year, who could have blamed me. I have been quiescent of late you might say quiet as a mouse, but I have been here and there around the church and have been paying close attention to this and that. I could tell all, but I am only going to tell you about the Session meeting in September. On September 26, at 7 p.m., the Session gathered as usual in the Reception Hall and when all were present and the meeting was called to order and we heard a great devotion about listening and paying attention, from Doug Laing. You may in fact hear it too, since Dr Dalles said it might show up in a sermon in the future. If you hear an illustration about FDR, you will know it is the one. So, keep one ear to the ground (easier for me than you since I am closer to the ground in general). Here are some other things I heard that night from our committees Christian Education Christy reported that Sunday School Kick Off went really well. Also, that the committee received glowing feedback about VBS. Worship Ken reported that this year we will have a homemade Christmas Cantata which Betsy and some church members are designing. Long Range Planning Scott tells us that the new church website is up and running with many thanks to Scott Prewitt. Human Resources Joy reminded the Session that it is nearly time for annual reviews and that they d have the forms in their mailboxes soon. They are also updating the church policy manual, so committees will have their pertinent pages to peruse. Finance Heidi reported that contributions have been better than the calendarized budget all summer something worth celebrating. Youth Nadyne says that they are setting up a prayer partners program for the youth. And that they are going to Aquatica on September 29 th. (Whether they are coming back, who knows?). Congregational Nurture Patty asked everyone to put March 31, 2019 on their calendar (when I looked, it was there already) for a visit from a rep from PDA (Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, not Public Display of Affection!) speaking at a lunch. Mission and Benevolence Gary says their committee is hosting the September Fellowship Dinner on the 16th, a movie night. The meeting adjourned with a prayer by Dr. Dalles at 7:50 p.m. Several elders had some nice conversation following the meeting (I know because I was right there behind the potted palm, listening!). There s much more to tell, but my tail is long enough as it is! Toodles! Hattie
