I hope you will be here to join with Christians around the world at the Lord s Table to worship Him. As we do, we are reminded in many ways of the love and presence of our Living Lord, not only in this place but in faraway places, and not only in this day and age but in every day and age. The practice of World Communion is of Presbyterian origins, and of 85 years standing. You might think it came out of a worship or mission committee but it did not. It came out of a 1933 stewardship campaign in a Presbyterian congregation in Pennsylvania. From there, the idea grew that believers in Christ are one, over all the whole wide earth. That is fitting. You see, for Wekiva, October is Stewardship Time. We remind ourselves that our concerns go beyond ourselves. We know that there is a whole world of need out there as well as much to do right here to make a positive difference for our Lord Jesus Christ. We know that the way to do that is to make it personal to provide what we can so that the faith will grow. Growth that is qualitative so that our commitments and the commitments of others in our fellowship will be deeper and stronger. And growth that is quantitative, so that we can say that the number of those who are professing Christ has increased in some way because of what we have done and what we have shared. Jesus talked about giving more than any other subject. It may not have been His most popular theme, but he talked about giving nonetheless and all the more. This is not, perhaps the easiest of times to talk of giving. If we were to say that the world is in an economic slump we would not be wrong. But I am inspired by the good Presbyterians of 1933 who in the midst of the darkest days of the Great Depression found ways to give and to give generously, since they had the whole world at heart. They knew and wanted to make tangible the words: God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son We love Jesus. We want others to know and love Jesus. So this is the month to say, we want to love the world the way God so loves the world. We want to give what we can to our church so that our church can be a place where anyone who longs for the good news of Christ can come and experience it firsthand. With the third Sunday in October comes Stewardship Commitment Sunday. It is my prayer that by your generosity in giving, you will make Wekiva a church where Joy in Our Giving is not just a slogan for Stewardship, but also way of living the whole year through. Yours in Christ, John A. Dalles, Pastor WE RE ON THE WEB! WWW.WEKIVAPRESBYTERIAN.ORG

Members hope their witness will encourage others and will share the good news of this opportunity. Membership in the Wekiva Legacy Society simply involves your affirmation that you have provided a gift for the church through your will or charitable remainder trust. P a g e 4 G l a d T i d i n g s S t e w a r d s h i p October is Stewardship Month You will hear a few sermons that focus on stewardship and hear from the stewardship committee with our theme on The Joy of Giving. Most importantly, you will be asked to make a pledge on your financial commitment to the church. Because it is important, we are ceremonial in giving our pledge cards during the worship service on what we call Commitment Sunday. Filling out the pledge card is very important. It allows us to set the upcoming year s budget for church operations and missions. 2018 has been a good year for Wekiva Presbyterian Church. Your financial support has put Wekiva on solid ground. You can see the many changes in our sanctuary and in our worship services. This is God s plan in action. I feel blessed to be a part of Wekiva, and I hope you feel the same way. Please think prayerfully on your commitment to Wekiva Presbyterian Church for 2019.
