1. Overview of the EIT Food Government Executive Academy EIT Food Government Executive Academy brings together government representatives from 13 RIS countries with experts working in the field of agri-food innovations from industry, academia and European institutions. The Academy is a week-long training program that offers insights into challenges related to food system innovations and regulations. It is also an opportunity to exchange best practices that will contribute to further improvements of Research & Innovation Smart Specialisation Strategies and inspire future development of operational programs based on the EU Structural and Investment Funds. The Academy is delivered by University of Warsaw, EIT Food CLC North- East and EIT Food CLC South with a group of industrial partners: Colruyt, Givaudan, Maspex, PepsiCo and Siemens. Key features workshops focused on real-life challenges experienced by global food industry players and actual needs of industry and customers lectures offering insights into the complexity of food system, stateof-the-art technologies and innovations developed by the agri-food industry highly interactive learning program based on case-studies and reallife examples 2

working with European experts in agri-food industry and innovation management participants do not pay tuition fee and have travel and personal costs reimbursed (up to the level of 1,000 gross refunded in accordance with EIT/Horizon 2020 rules) excellent opportunities to build an international network of policymakers working on the agri-food related Smart Specialisation Strategies (RIS3), exchanging experiences to continuously improve the national and regional policies. You will meet You will be part of a cohort of 39 government representatives from 13 RIS countries (Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey) involved in the design, implementation and/or monitoring of Research & Innovation Smart Specialisation Strategies (RIS3) related to agri-food industry or in defining regulatory policies related to agri food industry. During the Academy, you will meet government executives, directors, managers, scientists and other experts working in the agri-food industry, nongovernmental sector, European institutions and media. You can expect The Academy will supply you with expert knowledge on challenges faced by the global agri-food industry, state-of-the-art technologies relevant to the contemporary food system and best practices in innovation management. With our guests and experts from the field, you can expect to strengthen 3

the innovation eco-systems in your country, increase the internationalisation of your country s agri-food companies and increase success rates of new product launches to leverage the benefits of public funding distributed for Research & Innovations. You will also have an opportunity to share good practices, benefit from lessons learned of other countries and participate in an international network of policy experts involved in the updates of RIS3 and the development of the future operational programs based on European Structural and Investment Funds, 2021 2027. 2. Program An intensive program of lectures and workshops offering state-of-the-art knowledge on the complexity of food systems, management of innovations, regulation issues and leadership. An important part of the program are workshops presenting real-life challenges experienced by global food industry players (from Colruyt, Givaudan, Maspex, PepsiCo and Siemens) and actual needs of customers. The program is comprised of five days of classes, workshops and meetings delivered by leading European experts in agri-food industry, innovation management, regulation and MBA level leadership programs. It is highly interactive and features a variety of teaching tools (simulations, casestudies etc.). The program is organized around a team project that lets participants apply what they have learned to a practical question or problem related to Smart Specialisation Strategies (RIS3) in their countries. 4

Participants 39 government representatives from 13 RIS countries (Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey) involved in the design, implementation and/or monitoring of Research & Innovation Smart Specialisation Strategies (RIS3) or in defining regulatory policies related to agri food industry. 4. Admissions We aim at outstanding employees of national or regional governments (including ministries, agencies and regulatory bodies) from 13 RIS countries (Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey). The ideal applicant should: 1) Be involved in the design, implementation and/or monitoring of Research & Innovation Smart Specialisation Strategies (RIS3) related to agri-food industry or in defining regulatory policies related to agrifood industry in her or his country 2) Have relevant knowledge and experience in public policy development on a regional or national level 5

3) Have a leadership potential which means she or he has a track record in coordinating projects or contributing to new initiatives in RIS3 4) Have an entrepreneurial approach to problem solving and willingness to share her or his knowledge with other participants of the EIT Food GEA 5) Bring diversity. We strongly encourage applications from various geographical regions submitted by specialists in multiple fields. 7. FAQ General What is the EIT Food Government Executive Academy? EIT Food Government Executive Academy brings together government representatives from 13 RIS countries with experts working in the field of agri-food innovations from industry, academia and European institutions. Who will be on the faculty of the EIT Food GEA? The Academy is delivered by University of Warsaw, EIT Food CLC North- East and EIT Food CLC South with a group of industrial partners: Colruyt, Givaudan, Maspex, PepsiCo and Siemens. Admissions When will the EIT Food GEA start? The EIT Food GEA will start 5 th of November (Monday) and will last till 9 th of November (Friday). 11

We aim at outstanding public servants as well as representatives of regulatory and compliance bodies from 13 RIS countries (Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey). EIT Food GEA is free to attend for the 39 government representatives from 13 RIS countries, selected in open and transparent recruitment procedure. What is more, every participant will receive a reimbursement of travel and accommodation expenses amounting to 1,000 gross, subject to EIT/Horizon 2020 funding modalities (the staff of EIT Food GEA can support you in planning your travel and hotel arrangements). 12

What is the working language of the EIT Food GEA? The working language of EIT Food GEA is English. Participants will interact with other team members, make presentations and read background materials in English. Program What will I learn during the EIT Food GEA? You will receive hands-on knowledge on challenges faced by the global agri-food industry, innovations, trends and their relevance for Research & Innovation Smart Specialisation Strategies. The EIT Food GEA will offer you lectures and workshops on the complexity of food system, state-of-the-art agri-food technologies and innovations developed by the agri-food sector. What is more, the program of EIT Food GEA is based on case-studies and real-life examples. Why should I participate in the EIT Food GEA? You will not only learn about the global food system but also have a chance to meet experts from various countries and sectors as well as strengthen your personal network of policy-makers, business executives, researchers and representatives of other governments working on the Smart Specialisation Strategies (RIS3) and new ESIF Operational Programmes, 2021 2027. 13
