May 29 and June 5, 2016 Parish Bulletin Issue 19 Volume XLVIII ST. ALOYSIUS CATHOLIC CHURCH 2025 Stuart Avenue Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70808-3979 (225) 343-6657 Fax (225) 344-6847 Website: www.aloysius.org The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ Today we celebrate the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Each of the readings includes a blessing and a sharing of food. They remind us of the central place of meals in our lives. Each meal brings to mind other meals: the sharing of cookies and milk, pizza and beer, loaves and fishes, bread and wine. When we prepare a meal for our family, our friends, even strangers, we always put something of ourselves into the preparation and the meal itself. The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ reminds us of what God put into the preparation for this meal that we celebrate today. We share this sacred meal and are transformed as we remember the death of Jesus and the sacrifice that nurtures our faith, sustains our lives, and supports our work. PSR 1-6 GRADE CATECHISTS NEEDED FOR THE 2016-2017 YEAR PSR 1-6 Grade is looking for catechists to teach the 4 th and 5 th grade PSR classes this upcoming fall and winter. The classes are offered to our parishioners who do not attend a Catholic School. We meet for 8 weeks in the fall, break for the holidays, and meet for 4 weeks in the winter. Classes are held on Sunday mornings from 8:45-10:45 a.m. For more information, please contact Tricia Greely (225) 343-6657 or tgreely@staloysiusparish.com. Memorial Day Prayer God of power and mercy, you destroy war and put down earthly pride. Banish violence from our midst and wipe away our tears, that we may all deserve to be called your sons and daughters. Keep in your mercy those men and women who have died in the cause of freedom and bring them safely into your kingdom of justice and peace. We ask this though Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers May 29 and June 5, 2016 Corpus Christi Sunday & 10th Sunday in Ordinary

EVENTS OF INTEREST IN THE AREA CASA Volunteers Needed Children need to do more than just survive. They deserve to thrive in the safety and love of a family. However, some children have been removed from their homes and placed in foster care due to abuse or neglect at the hands of their parents or caregivers. You can help one of these children reach a forever family by becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate. CASA volunteers provide a voice for these children to help them reach safe, permanent homes and ensure their needs are being met. CASA volunteers do not provide legal representation, nor do they replace social workers. A CASA volunteer is an independent voice speaking solely for the child. Capital Area CASA Association needs volunteers in order to continue serving every child who needs a voice in East Baton Rouge Parish. No special background is required. The first step to getting involved is to attend a 45-minute informational session at the CASA office, 848 Louisiana Ave. For dates and more information, call (225) 379-8598, visit www.casabr.org or email volunteer@casabr.org. Thank you for your response to our Giving Tree collections! Many necessary items were delivered to those in need at the Bishop Ott shelter, the Sweet Dreams shelter, area crisis pregnancy centers and the GBR Food Bank! Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
