PROGRAMME 6 May 2015 VENUE Copenhagen

WELCOME altic Development Forum is pleased to welcome participants Bfrom governments, business and other stakeholders in the energy sector to the energy dialogue conference. The plans for a European energy union with forward looking climate policies and an ambitious economic growth strategy call for enhanced energy cooperation in the Baltic Sea Region. While the energy cooperation more should be done to strengthen regional integration in energy to address the challenges and seize the opportunities from renewed growth, security of energy supply and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. With this event, Baltic Development Forum is hoping to strengthen the energy dialogue in the Baltic Sea Region and provide a regional public-private platform for discussions on the challenges in the Baltic Sea Region. It is our aim to issue a range of short policy papers putting spotlight on various key aspects of the regional energy cooperation and develop recommendations on how to meet the challenges, increase regional cooperation and contribute to economic growth, competitiveness and sustainability. I hope that the conference will also serve as an opportunity to establish new partnerships and networks among public We warmly welcome your ideas for the energy dialogue initiative and invite you energy dialogue in the Baltic Sea region. Lene Espersen BDF Chairman W hile energy security is of key national importance, it is also an area where regional co-operation and an integrated energy market are essential tools for long-term sustainable solutions. As Presidency of the NB8 Denmark is increasing focus on regional co-operation on energy issues in order to improve security of supply, create more competition and promote the transition to a sustainable, low-carbon and climate-friendly economy that is designed to last. The Energy Union is the right initiative at the right time, and my hope is that today s discussions will add value to this important work. Martin Lidegaard Energy security is a complex issue and we must attempt to address the many aspects that can promote secure, sustainable and competitive energy. This diversifying supply, decarbonising the economy, as well as ensuring both interconnectivity and a well-functioning internal market for energy. Our increased co-operation on these issues is also important for successful deliberations at COP21 in Paris, where an ambitious climate agreement is paramount is my goal that the Energy Dialogue in the Baltic Sea Region will sustain and add momentum for increased regional co-operation on energy policy, and that notion of how we can engage relevant stakeholders in developing sustainable ways of overcoming our common challenges.
