Harry Hampton Scholarship Fund Scholarship Update-December December, 2012 This scholarship fund offers 4 scholarships to deserving SC students: Harry Hampton, Wallace F. Pate, David M. Cline and James O. Thomason Scholarships. Harry Hampton Scholarship: For students in the natural resources disciplines such as wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry or marine science ($2,500 per year annually). Wallace Pate Scholarship: For students in the natural resources discipline such as wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry or marine science ($1,500 for one year). David Cline Scholarship: For students who wish to further their education in the natural resources discipline such as wildlife biology, fisheries biology, forestry, marine science or law enforcement/criminal justice ($2,000 for one year). James Thomason Scholarship: For students who wish to further their education in print or photo journalism, advertising, public relations or mass communications. This scholarship requires the student to submit a topical essay ($1,000 per year annually). Natural resource students may apply for the Hampton and Pate Scholarships together on one application form, but are eligible to be awarded only one. Natural resource students may also apply for the Cline Scholarship using the Cline application. Law enforcement/criminal justice students are only eligible to apply for the Cline Scholarship. General Biology, pre-med Biology and veterinary science are NOT eligible for these scholarships. Two of the scholarships are 4 year scholarships while two of them are for one year only. To be eligible for this award, you must be a U.S. citizen, be under 25 years of age and answer both of the following two essay questions: in fewer than 1000 words, "Why is a healthy lifestyle important in school?" and in fewer than 500 words, describe your career plans, goals and personal ambitions. The American Legion Oratorical Scholarship Program A Constitutional l Speech Contest The purpose of this contest is to develop a deeper knowledge and appreciation of the Constitution of the United States. Each contestant shall present a prepared oration of not less than 8 or more than 10 minutes on some phase of the Constitution of the US. At the next levels contestants must also speak extemporaneously on one of the 2012-2013 Assigned Topics. All local contests must be concluded by January 12, 2013. Gates Millennium Scholars Program Various scholarships for minority populations. Applications are available online at www.apiasf.org. The deadline is Wednesday, January 16 th, 2013 at 11:59pm EST. U.S. Scholarship Program Anyone can apply for a ONE of the four scholarships sponsored by the U.S. Scholarship Program and the Ronald McDonald House Charities. Application Deadline is DECEMBER 20, 2012. AXA Community Scholarship Are you active in your community? Have you led a project that benefits others? Have you overcome personal challenges? If you can say yes to any of these questions, then you may want to apply for the AXA Community Scholarship. The application deadline for the Community Scholarship is February 1st, 2013. They will accept the first 10,000 applications (so apply early!!). A number of Mensa Foundation scholarships are awarded with no restrictions regarding age, gender, academic grade point average or financial need, as long as the applicant resides in the area of a participating Local Group. Most scholarships are based solely on an essay written by the applicant, and special category scholarships are awarded to applicants who meet specific academic or personal requirements. G-Man Scholarship Foundation The G-Man Scholarship Foundation provides financial assistance to qualified minority students athletes who demonstrate a genuine financial need and who are furthering their education at a 2- year or 4-year institution of higher learning. South Carolina Career and Technology Education Administrators Association (CTEA) Scholarship If you have filled most of your high school electives with Career and Technology courses you may be eligible for the CTEA Scholarship. Watson-Brown Scholarship Foundation The 2013-2014 Watson-Brown Foundation Scholarship Application is now available! To be eligible you must have a GPA above a 3.0 and plan to attend a 4 year accredited College/University, located in the United States. Please visit the school website or the scholarship area located in the guidance office for more information. Luke H. Chatman Memorial Scholarship Attention African American Senior Male Students! The Gamma Gamma Lambda Chapter would like for you to apply for the Luke H. Chatman Memorial Scholarship. The deadline is April 1st, 2013 but you will need to request a copy of your high school transcript, from your school counselor, by no later than March 18, 2013. The scholarship information and application have been sent to your school email and can also be found in the scholarship area in the guidance department.
Chapman Foundation Scholarship This scholarship opportunity is available for anyone who has been accepted to a College, University, or Technical Institute. The deadline is July 15 th, 2013. Applications require two recommendation letters and an Official Copy of your transcript. You must also attach a copy of your acceptance letter to your application. Asian and Pacific Islander American Scholarship Fund (APIASF) The APIASF applications are currently available online. Please visit www.apiasf.org for more information. APIASF is working towards fulfilling its mission of providing access to resources and higher education for thousands of Asian American and Pacific Islander students around the country and Pacific Islands. The deadline for the APIASF Scholarship application will be on Friday, January 11, 2013 at 11:59pm EST. If you have any questions or concerns contact applicant@apiasf.org 2013 SCATA Scholarship Annually the South Carolina Association of Title I Administrators (SCATA) awards six $2,000 scholarships and six $1,000 scholarships to twelve qualifying high school seniors. Two scholarships are awarded in each of the six regions. Each applicant must be eligible for free or reduced lunch based on current USDA eligibility criteria. Byrnes Scholarship The James F. Byrnes Foundation was established in 1949 to assist young South Carolinians who had lost one or both parents to obtain a college education. Since that time, the Byrnes Scholarships have been awarded to over 1,000 students. The annual award of 3,250.00 is applied for each year of a four-year bachelor's degree program. The scholarship is renewed annually contingent upon the recipient's maintenance of satisfactory academic standing, need for financial assistance, and participation in Byrnes Scholar activities. In order to be eligible for the James F. Byrnes Scholarship, a student must: have one or both parents deceased be a South Carolina resident and United States citizen plan to pursue a bachelor's degree at an accredited 4 year college/university have a satisfactory academic record have received their SAT/ACT score (prior to submitting the application) demonstrate excellence in character, ability, and enterprise to indicate that the student will make worthwhile contributions to society; and have a need for financial assistance in order to attend college Please visit the James F. NROTC Scholarship (Navy) The NROTC scholarship pays up to $180,000 for college and just obligates you to do NROTC in college. After that you will have to serve a minimum of 6 years as a navy officer. We also have a great nursing program. You can get a degree in any desired degree field. You don't have to be in NROTC in high school to apply for this scholarship. It s free to apply and if anyone is interested I have all of the paperwork for it. Requirements: ACT: 21 ON MATH/22 ON ENGLISH, SAT: 520 MATH/530 ENGLISH OR THE TOP 10% CLASS STANDING AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFY REGARDLESS OF TEST SCORE. You have to attend a college that has NROTC.
