Attracting a prestigious crowd of foodies, this high-profile culinary cook-off has become the anticipated event for the fall season and you do not want to miss your chance to compete! We invite you to enter a team in the 2015 Crab Cake Cook-Off. This exclusive event is a great way to promote your business as all participants will be prominently featured at the cook-off and will also have glowing profiles written about them for Community Partners website and social media pages. There is no entry fee. Your participation and donation benefits children battling devastating issues related to trauma, abuse and neglect. Teams Team places are first come, first served. The first 10 teams to submit their entry form will be added to the team list of 9 competitors for 2015. One team spot is automatically reserved for our VIP Cocktail Kick-Off venue sponsor, who has the right to participate or refuse their place in the competition. If they refuse their place, the tenth team will be chosen from the order received. Each participating team is asked to give a $50 gift certificate from their business to be added into our special Crab Bucket 2015 prize auction item. A team may consist of up to three cooks or helpers. Each team member will receive complimentary soft beverages. An eight foot table space will be provided each team. Teams may decorate their tables or place business cards or flyers to promote their business. Teams provide their own ingredients; crab must be quality lump crab. All crab cakes must be freshly prepared from the chef or restaurant s original recipe. As crab is expensive, Community
Partners is grateful to Cod & Capers for providing blue crab meat at cost. Winners must provide a recipe for publication based on two pounds of crab meat. Each team must prepare approximately 450 1/4-sized crab cakes for the public tasting. Teams must bring all their own cooking utensils, cookers (must be pre-approved for City of WPB compliance), burners, pots, ladles, knives, cutting boards, gloves, sanitation buckets, etc. For safety and compliance reasons, electric cooking devices are not permitted. Teams may use the onsite catering area for cleaning their cookware. Teams may prepare crab cakes ahead of time and cook/sear on site. If they wish, teams may serve one specialty side item to guests during tasting. Community Partners will provide plates, forks and napkins for each cooking station. Tasting Each team must create 8 regular-sized crab cakes required for judging. Community Partners will supply the plates for the judging to ensure that presentation is anonymous and decisions are unbiased. The panel of judges will NOT be choosing a winner but instead making commentary about the crab cake. Their feedback is based on crab cake taste, originality, balance of crab meat, texture, sauce and presentation. The People s Choice Award will determine an overall winner. Important Event Times 4:30 p.m.: Preparations and set-up may begin 5:00 p.m.: Chef Photography 5:30 p.m.: Judging begins (in seats at 5:15) When teams check in, they will be given an approximate time to present their crab cakes and sauce for the blind tasting. VIP Ticket Holders will be admitted at 5:30 p.m. to watch the tasting. General Ticket Holders will be admitted at 6:30. 6:30 p.m.: Judges photo Winners will be announced as close to 8 p.m. as possible. Rule violations may result in award disqualification.
