OVERALL PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES OF ROLE 1. Establishes and maintains policies and procedures as an accredited approver for continuing nursing education that assure quality programming according to the criteria established by the American Nurses Credentialing Center - Commission on Accreditation (ANCC-COA) which are consistent with the mission, objectives, policies, procedures, and strategic plan of ANNA. 2. Implements and evaluates the process for reviewing, approving, and awarding contact hours for continuing education in nursing. C. COMPOSITION 1. Committee a. The Committee shall be composed of: (1) Chairperson (2) Chairperson Designate (3) Up to ten (10) additional Members (4) Director of Education Services 2. Chairperson and Chairperson Designate: a. Selection Method: Refer to Bylaws Article VII, Section B. Becomes Chairperson after serving one (1) year as the Chairperson Designate, pending approval of the Board of Directors (BOD). b. Qualifications: (1) Either the Chairperson or Chairperson Designate must hold a master's degree and have a baccalaureate or graduate degree in nursing. (2) Holds an active license as a registered professional nurse. (3) Nephrology nurse with at least three (3) years experience. (4) Full member of ANNA for at least three (3) years. (5) Served as a peer reviewer CEAB member. (6) Chairperson must have prior experience as Chairperson Designate. c. Selection Criteria: (1) Experience with interpreting criteria for continuing education in nursing. (2) Documented oral and written communication skills. (3) Documented experience in planning and implementing CNE programs that includes: a) Assessing learning needs of the target audience. b) Performance of a gap analysis c) Writing goals and desired practice charge goals. d) Activity Evaluation both long and short term evaluations. (4) Demonstrated leadership ability to: a) Coordinate activities. b) Meet established time lines. c) Facilitate group process. d) Promote problem-solving process. (5) Knowledge of software and access to computer-facilitated communication required: Internet, Email, Microsoft Word, and Excel. (6) Consideration will be given to include diversity of practice specialty, age, ethnicity, gender, and geographic representation. 3. Education Services Coordinator a. Selection Method: (1) Management Firm selection based on role requirements with input from the Chairperson. (2) Annual performance evaluation conducted by the Management Firm. b. Qualifications: (1) Experience with ANCC continuing nursing education (CNE) criteria preferred. (2) Excellent communication skills. (3) Strong administrative assistant background. (4) Strong verbal and written communication skills. (5) Knowledge of a variety of software applications with ability to design spread sheets and databases to support CEAB records. (6) Experience with team-based projects, including problem solving, establishing goals, and meeting timelines. c. Selection Criteria: (1) Documented oral, written, and electronic communication skills. (2) Demonstrated ability to: a) Develop project time lines and meet established goals. b) Think critically and problem-solve. 11.02.03, Continuing Education Approver Board (CEAB), page 2

4. Committee Members D. TENURE a. Selection Method: (1) Appointed, with ongoing evaluation, by the Chairperson and Chairperson Designate. b. Number of committee members: Up to twelve (12) members to include the Chairperson and Chairperson Designate. c. Qualifications: (1) Three (3) years nephrology nursing or medical-surgical experience. (2) Holds an active license as a registered professional nurse. (3) Baccalaureate degree, graduate degree preferred. At least one (1) degree with a major in nursing. (4) Practicing in a nephrology related field at the time of appointment. (5) Full member of ANNA for a minimum of three (3) years. (6) Chapter officer/committee experience preferred. (7) Current certification in nephrology nursing preferred. (8) Working knowledge of word processing programs. (9) Experience in planning educational programs using ANCC-COA criteria. d. Selection Criteria: (1) Documented oral and written communication skills. (2) Demonstrates knowledge of current and future nursing and health care issues. (3) Documented experience in planning and implementing CNE programs that includes: a) Assessing learning needs of the target audience. b) Writing goals and behavioral objectives. c) Evaluation of the activity. (4) Knowledge of software and access to computer-facilitated communications required: Email, Microsoft Word, and Excel. (5) Consideration will be given to include diversity of practice specialty, age, ethnicity, gender, and geographic representation. 1. The Chairperson is appointed to serve a two (2) year term one (1) year as Chairperson Designate followed by one (1) year as Chairperson. May be reappointed. 2. Committee members are appointed for two (2) years. Members may be reappointed for an additional two (2) years. The committee members will be asked if they would like to rotate off the committee every two (2) years. E. F. ATTENDANCE EXPECTED AT THE FOLLOWING MEETINGS: 1. Chairperson a. National Symposium (outgoing). b. Orientation Webinar as required by the President-Elect (incoming). c. Annual CEAB meeting as approved by the BOD on an annual basis. d. Regularly scheduled CEAB conference calls. e. Conference calls with Board Liaison and Director of Education Services as needed. f. Own local ANNA chapter meetings. 2. Chairperson Designate a. Orientation Webinar as required by the President-Elect (incoming/midterm). b. Annual CEAB meeting as approved by the BOD on an annual basis. c. Regularly scheduled CEAB conference calls. d. Conference calls with Board Liaison and Director of Education Services as needed. e. Own local ANNA chapter meetings. 3. Education Services Coordinator and Committee Members a. Annual CEAB Meeting. b. Regularly scheduled CEAB conference calls. c. Other meetings as approved. d. Own local ANNA chapter meetings (Committee Members). 4. Director of Education Services a. Annual CEAB Meeting as approved by the BOD on an annual basis. b. Regularly scheduled CEAB conference calls. c. G. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CHAIRPERSON 1. Understands, upholds, and supports the mission, objectives, policies, procedures, and strategic plan of ANNA in conjunction with the Director of Education Services. a. Submits written status report prior to BOD meetings and as requested to the Board Liaison. Notifies the Board Liaison immediately of significant changes or problems. b. Communicates with Director of Education Services for implementation of ANCC-COA criteria and Education Services Coordinator for daily operations. (1) Prepares written reports as requested by the established deadlines. (2) Assumes responsibilities delegated by the Board Liaison. (3) Assists in preparing annual CEAB budget. (4) Ensures development, revision, and implementation of action plan to promote the strategic plan. (5) Submits annual report to the BOD and Education Services Coordinator. (6) Coordinates topics and submission of articles for the ANNA Update. c. Prepares meeting and conference call agendas with the Education Services Coordinator and chairs all meetings. d. Orients the Chairperson Designate. e. Acts as a consultant to the Chairperson Designate during orientation. f. Vacates the Chairperson position prior to the annual CEAB meeting. g. Is responsible for any applications assigned prior to the annual CEAB meeting. 2. Reviews, updates, and maintains policies and procedures required as an accredited approver for continuing education in nursing that assure quality programming according to the criteria established by the ANCC-COA in conjunction with the Director of Education Services. a. Reviews ANCC-COA criteria annually against ANNA policies and procedures. Submits proposed ANNA policy and procedure changes to the National Secretary. b. Reviews policies, procedures, and criteria pertinent to the peer review process and proposes changes to the Board Liaison. c. Oversees the review of the role description and policies and procedures of the approval unit as requested. 11.02.03, Continuing Education Approver Board (CEAB), page 5

Implements and evaluates the process for reviewing, approving, and awarding contact hours for continuing education in nursing per established criteria for ANNA constituents and others in conjunction with the Director of Education Services. a. Orients and guides all members of CEAB in the review process. b. Performs a qualitative review on 50% of applications assigned on an alternating basis with the Chairperson Designate. c. Evaluates the review process for 50% of the applications received and renders the final decision. d. Maintains a calendar of outstanding applications. e. Submits completed review forms to the National Office. Corresponds with activity coordinators, as needed, regarding status of their application. f. Reports on the results of the review process; i.e. adherence to the criteria. g. Informs national and local officers and membership about approval process changes. h. May serve as one of the two (2) reviewers for selected applications. i. Consults with CEAB members. j. Corresponds with the Education Services Coordinator at the National Office regarding supplies (e.g. certificates, evaluation forms, attendance records) and status of applications. 4. Evaluates and reports the effectiveness of the approval process and implements changes in the approver unit in conjunction with the Director of Education Services. a. Reports results to Education Services Coordinator, CEAB members, and the BOD through status update reports. b. Oversees/reviews quality improvement programs. c. Reviews orientation process for new CEAB members. d. When accreditation is due, is responsible for the application in collaboration with the Chairperson Designate, Education Services Coordinator, and in consultation with the Director of Education Services. H. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CHAIRPERSON DESIGNATE 1. Understands, upholds, and supports the mission, objectives, policies, procedures, and strategic plan of ANNA in conjunction with the Chairperson and the Director of Education Services. a. Reports to the Chairperson of the Approver Unit. (1) Prepares written reports as requested by the established deadline. (2) Functions as co-chair and assumes responsibilities delegated by the Chairperson. b. Assumes role of Chairperson prior to the annual CEAB meeting if presiding Chairperson vacates position. c. Chairs the orientation meeting for new members of the CEAB. d. Is responsible for the review of applications assigned before and after the annual meeting. 2. In cooperation with the Chairperson, establishes and maintains policies and procedures as an accredited approver for continuing education in nursing that assure quality programming according to the criteria established by the ANCC-COA in conjunction with the Chairperson and the Director of Education Services. 11.02.03, Continuing Education Approver Board (CEAB), page 6

3. Works with the Chairperson to implement and evaluate the process for reviewing, approving, and awarding contact hours for continuing education in nursing per established criteria for ANNA constituents and others in conjunction with the Chairperson and the Director of Education Services. a. Assists in the orientation and guidance of all members of CEAB in the review process. b. Performs a qualitative review on 50% of applications assigned on an alternating basis with the Chairperson. c. Evaluates the review process for 50% of the applications and renders the final decision. d. Maintains a calendar of outstanding applications. e. Occasionally serves as one of the two (2) reviewers for selected applications. f. Consults with CEAB members as needed. g. Corresponds with activity coordinators, as needed, regarding status of their application. h. Corresponds with the Education Services Coordinator at the National Office regarding supplies and status of applications. 4. Works with the Chairperson and the Director of Education Services to evaluate the operation as an accredited approver. a. Reports on the results of the review process for those applications under the Chairperson Designate s review. b. Reports results to Chairperson and CEAB members. c. Assists in reviewing the quality improvement programs. d. Assists in the orientation process for new CEAB members. e. Assists the Chairperson with CEAB meetings. (1) Prepares meeting and conference call agendas with Chairperson. (2) Responsible for maintaining minutes for meetings and conference calls. f. When accreditation is due, assists in preparation of the application in collaboration with the Chairperson and Education Services Coordinator and consultation with the Director of Education Services. 5. Attends at least 75% of pre-scheduled conference calls or discusses ability to continue as effective member with Chairperson. I. RESPONSIBILITIES OF CEAB MEMBERS 1. Understands, upholds, and supports the mission, objectives, policies, procedures, and strategic plan of ANNA. a. Attends annual CEAB meeting. b. Reviews all assigned applications and returns review results electronically to the Chairperson within seven (7) calendar days. c. Participates in scheduled conference calls. d. Takes minutes as assigned for conference calls. e. Assists in the planning and implementation of other goals or projects established by the CEAB as requested. f. Participates in workshops, as requested on the continuing education process. g. Participates in writing of ANNA Update articles as requested. 11.02.03, Continuing Education Approver Board (CEAB), page 7

Participates in establishing and maintaining policies and procedures as an accredited approver for continuing education in nursing that assure quality programming according to the criteria established by the ANCC-COA. a. Assists in the review of the CEAB guidelines and related communication. b. Reviews CEAB policies and procedures annually according to approver evaluation plan. 3. Participates in the implementation and evaluation of the process for reviewing, approving, and awarding contact hours for continuing education in nursing per established criteria for ANNA constituents. a. Assists in establishing policies and criteria related to the continuing education approval process. b. Recommends changes to the Chairperson regarding the approval process. J. RESPONSIBILITIES OF EDUCATION SERVICES COORDINATOR 1. Understands, upholds, and supports the mission, objectives, policies, procedures, and strategic plan of ANNA. a. Facilitates the role of the Chairperson. (1) Prepares written reports by the established deadline, i.e., activity report for each BOD meeting with reviews by the Chairperson and Director of Education Services. (2) Assumes responsibilities delegated to him/her by the Chairperson. (3) Communicates reportable changes to ANCC-COA. (4) Facilitates conference calls. 2. Assists Chairperson to establish and maintain criteria for awarding contact hours for continuing education in nursing that assure quality programming according to the criteria established by the ANCC-COA. a. Notifies the Chairperson regarding chapter problems related to the continuing education process. b. Reviews annually, the ANNA Guidelines for Continuing Education: A Manual for Providers, at the annual CEAB meeting and suggests changes or revisions to the Chairperson. c. Consults with the Director of Education Services as necessary. 3. Provides assistance to implement and evaluate the process for reviewing, approving, and awarding contact hours for continuing education in nursing per established criteria for ANNA constituents. a. Assists the Chairperson to orient the Chairperson Designate according to the role description. b. Reviews the chain of command, communications, and recordkeeping process with the Chairperson. c. Drafts correspondence, with the Chairperson, to constituents. Processes all correspondence related to the approver unit. 11.02.03, Continuing Education Approver Board (CEAB), page 8

4. Ensures effective operations of electronic processing of applications. Assigns reviewers and Chairperson for each application on a rotating basis. Provides all supplies to the reviewers and Chairpersons. a. Performs quantitative review of applications according to the review criteria. b. Reviews each application for completeness upon receipt at the National Office before they are sent for review. Communicates with Activity Coordinator to submit required materials to complete the application. c. Assesses compliance to policy, procedure, and criteria using the computer database. d. Prepares reports for the monthly conference calls and to the Chairperson for inclusion in status update reports to the BOD. e. Oversees the quantitative aspects of audits of approved educational activities. f. Communicates results of the quantitative review with the Chairperson. g. Assists the Chairperson in conducting a quality improvement program. h. Ensures submission of articles for each issue of the ANNA Update on an as needed basis when changes occur. i. Submits a list of approved applications to be posted on the ANNA Website monthly. j. Corresponds with constituents regarding changes in approver unit policy and procedure. k. Assists with keeping committee information and activity up-to-date on the Website. l. Posts reports for the monthly conference calls on ANNA Connected for the CEAB members to access prior to and during the monthly conference calls. 5. Evaluates and reports the operation as an accredited approver. a. Prepares reports as needed. b. Assists the Chairperson and the Director of Education Services in application preparation when accreditation is due. 6. Maintains records. a. Maintains all approver unit records. (1) Enters each application into the computer database. (2) Maintains accuracy of database records. (3) Consults with Data Center. (4) Sends reports to Chairperson, Chairperson Designate, Committee, and others as requested. (5) Maintains file for each application. b. Maintains records of CNE activities. (1) Enters each certificate into computer database. (2) Responds to requests for duplicate certificates. 11.02.03, Continuing Education Approver Board (CEAB), page 9

K. RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MANAGEMENT FIRM 1. Supports the Director of Education Services, who serves as CEAB Administrator and point of contact with ANNA for the ANCC-COA and assures: a. Completes reports to ANCC. b. Apprises ANNA BOD of changes to ANCC-COA criteria and of approver processes. c. Follows ANCC criteria in the approver process. 2. Supports the Education Services Coordinator, who serves to maintain criteria for awarding contact hours for continuing education in nursing that assure quality programming according to the criteria established by the ANCC-COA. 3. Prior to appointment, upon receipt of names of possible appointees for the roles of Committee Chairperson, Chairperson Designate and BOD members, confirms that appointees meet the qualifications outlined within the role description. 4.
