Verbal communication, which is any type of communication that uses speech, including sounds, language, and even your tone of voice. This month I want for you to take time to verbally communicate how you feel to others. Participate in YOUth voice by telling people how you feel or what you think. Just as in other forms of communication, remember to keep your audience in mind when speaking to others. This month we will cover Important Issue ID - Think about an important issue or topic that affects you and your audience. Discuss the topic by encouraging everyone to voice their opinion. When giving an opinion, be sure to make your opinion clear and present evidence to defend your opinion. Be polite and respectful of all opinions. 2017 4-H University Blue Ribbon Winners from St. Charles Parish Impromptu Speaking: At some point in your life you will find yourself speaking in front of an audience. Speaking in front of an unknown audience may be a little scary, but like with anything, you will become better with practice. In this game, you will be given a topic. You will have 1 minute to think about what you would like to say. Then you will talk for 1-2 minutes on the topic. Feel free to be creative and make something up! (How did you feel completing this activity? How can you prepare for giving a speech in the future? If you had to give a speech, what topic would you choose?) Demo Duo: A demonstration is when you give a speech while showing someone how to do something. For this activity you will work with a partner. Each person will receive a card with a 4-H YOGA pose on it. The demonstrator will demonstrate how to do the yoga pose. The pupil will follow directions of the demonstrator. Partners will rotate and take turns being the demonstrator and pupil. (What information do you think you should include when giving a demonstration? If you had to give a demonstration, what topic would you choose?)
