NORDIC TECH WEEK IN BERLIN 29-30 OCTOBER 2018 PRESS KIT The Nordic countries Denmark, Norway, Iceland, Finland, Sweden, the Faroe Islands, Aaland and Greenland - have a long history of co-operation with Germany, based on strong ties in business, trade and culture as well as common values and a desire to attain results that promote a dynamic development in the region. On October 29-30, IKT-Norge, IT&Telekomföretagen and IT-Branchen, the leading ICT industry associations of Norway, Sweden and Denmark are hosting the first Nordic Tech Week in Berlin, held at the Nordic Embassies (Nordische Botshaften). The purpose behind the two-day event is two-fold. Firstly, it provides a great opportunity for the Nordic stakeholders to connect with German press, companies, organizations, government and investors. Secondly, this is the ideal opportunity to share the Nordic story with the local ecosystem leaders and other stakeholder in Berlin. PRESS RELEASE - for immediate release The Nordic tech scene heads to Berlin Nordic Tech Week, October 29-30, Nordic Embassies BERLIN, October 2018 IKT-Norge, IT&Telekomföretagen and IT-Branchen, the leading ICT industry associations of Norway, Sweden and Denmark, will host the first Nordic Tech Week in Berlin on October 29-30. BACKGROUND MATERIAL 1. STARTUPS IN THE NORDICS The community in this region of just 26 million people has become tightly-knit in a relatively short span of time. With an accelerating flow of interesting new startup companies, great entrepreneurs serving as mentors, emerging venture capital players, and events, meetups and more, the region is becoming more united than ever. The Nordic region is home to a series of great entrepreneurs and tech companies, such as Skype, Spotify and Opera. Nowadays the Nordics have the most billion dollar-valued companies compared to population right after Silicon Valley. Also, during the past five years, 26% of all European exits have come from the Nordic countries which represent less than 4% of European population. OPERATION 2. THE NORDIC MINISTERS HAVE PRIORITIZED FOUR MAIN AREAS OF CO- Entrepreneurship and funding with focus on strengthening entrepreneurial competencies and improving conditions for funding in early phases. Another aim is to develop the Nordic region into a pioneer region for new and innovative digital solutions.
