WELCOME TO TEXAS HISTORY DAY Welcome to Texas History Day! You have dedicated many hours to the research and creation of your entry. Your hard work has paid off and you are now part of a select group of students who have advanced to Texas History Day over the last 35 years. As part of the top three percent of students in our nationally-recognized program, you should be very proud of all that you have accomplished. It is our desire that you leave Texas History Day with positive memories that last a lifetime. I am quite certain that you have acquired and polished a variety of skills that will benefit you throughout your life. The ability to locate timely and pertinent information, evaluate it critically, and communicate it effectively is important in daily life. Individuals who master these skills are able to undertake successful careers in their chosen field and become productive citizens. Some of you will advance to National History Day, where you will represent Texas, while others will begin to prepare for next year s Texas History Day. Regardless of the outcome of this weekend s event, you should all be proud of what you have accomplished. The staff, Board of Directors, and membership of the Texas State Historical Association, commend you for your outstanding efforts. Stephen S. Cure Director of Educational Services 3
