Klaus receives Service Above Self award Klaus Hachfeld (left) received the Service above Self award presented by District Governor James Fusco (center) at the annual 7910 District Conference held in Plymouth, MA on Saturday May 21st. Several members of the Sturbridge Rotary club and members of Klaus s family to include his wife Glenys (right) attended the conference specifically to observe Klaus receiving this award. Somehow everyone kept the issuance of the award a secret catching Klaus in complete surprise. The Service Above Self award is the highest honor which Rotary International can bestow upon individuals for their service. Charles Battersby Inducted as New Member Member Chair Bill Lemke (left) and Past District Governor Klaus Hachfeld (right) induct Charles Battersby (center) as a new member of the Sturbridge Rotary Club at the May 23rd meeting. Charles recently returned back to Sturbridge and looks forward to serving the community. Charles wife Marguerite accompanied him to the meeting to observe his induction ceremony. Welcome to the Sturbridge Rotary Club Charles!!

Joseph Coan presents landscape design President elect Otto Prohaska, PhD (left) presents Joseph Coan the Sturbridge Rotary mug thanking him for presenting landscape design at the May 23rd meeting. Joseph presented slides of projects that he has worked on, including in Atlanta, GA., the $500million Marine Corp University in Quantico, VA. He is now working on smaller residential and commercial projects through his own business, JCLA (Joseph Coan Landscape Architecture) in Sturbridge. He also had slides of displays he designed for the Boston Flower Show. Joseph then presented an idea of how we could build community gardens to supply the John Paul II food pantry with fresh, healthy nutritious food. If we would start this project in the fall, Rotary could have this project up and running by the spring of 2017.
