Historical background The Jean Monnet Programme was launched in 1989 aiming to facilitate the introduction of European integration studies in universities. The programme takes the name of Jean Monnet (1888-1979), one of the architects of the European Union, The Father of Europe.

Module Chair Centre of Excellence About Activities Nb. Of Teaching Hrs Short teaching programme / course in the field of European Union studies. May concentrate on one particular discipline in European studies or be multidisciplinary Teaching post with a specialisation in European Union studies for university professors. A Jean Monnet Chair must be held by only one professor. Focal point of competence and knowledge on EU subjects based on the expertise of high-level experts. Aims at developing interactions between various disciplines and resources in European studies, creating joint transnational activities and structural links with academic institutions and ensures openness to civil society. Teaching and research -General or introductory courses on European Union issues. -Specialised teaching on European Union developments. -Summer and intensive courses that are fully recognised. -Deepen teaching in European Union studies embodied in an official curriculum. -Conduct, monitor and supervise research on EU subjects. -Provide teaching on EU matters for future professionals in fields which are in increasing demand on the labour market. - Organizing resources related to European Union studies. - Leading research activities. - Update and complement courses and curricula. - Exchange of experiences about the EU (thinktank function). - Systematic publication of the results of research activities. Jean Monnet Support to Associations Support for Associations About Jean Monnet supports associations to contribute to the study of the European integration process. They should be interdisciplinary and open to all interested professors, teachers and researchers specialising in EU issues in the relevant country or region. They disseminate knowledge, contribute to collecting and capitalizing information as well as analyzing visions of specific issues. Activities - e.g. the publication of a newsletter, the setting up of a dedicated website, the organisation of the annual board meeting, the organisation of specific promotional events aimed at providing greater visibility to European Union subjects, etc.; - Publish European Union facts among a wider public enhancing active citizenship. - Perform research in European subjects to advise local, regional, national and European policy makers and disseminate the outcome among the involved institutions in this issues. Duration: Networks: 3 years Projects 12, 18, 24 months Policy Debate with the Academic World About Activities Grant Jean Monnet Networks Foster the creation and development of consortia of international players (HEIs, Centres of Excellence, departments, teams, individual experts, etc.) in the area of EU studies. Jean Monnet Networks require a minimum of 3 partners. -Gathering information, exchanging practice, building knowledge and promoting the European Integration process across the world. -Enhancing cooperation between different HEI and other relevant bodies inside/outside Europe. -Creating a high knowledge exchange platform with public actors. 300000 EUR Jean Monnet Projects - Jean Monnet Projects support: innovation, cross-fertilization and spread of European Union content. - Aims: making European Union subjects more attractive and adapted to various kinds of target group; enhance knowledge about the Union and its processes; information and dissemination activities. -Developing and delivering appropriate pedagogical content for School students. - Training and continuing education for teachers -Support the creation of EU Studies and enhance the level of knowledge and the dynamic of a department, staff in a given faculty/school. -Organise conferences, seminars and delivery of courses on EU issues. -Information and dissemination activities. 60000 EUR

Duration: 3 years 2010 to 2013 with one year extension (autofinance) 2014. Budget: Total Cost: 25.536 euro, the agency co-financed with 19.152 euro. Number of Lectures: 60 lectures (3 hours each).
