The Stockholm International Rotary Club Ron Pavellas Award for Community Service Background The Stockholm International Rotary Club (SIRC) is a member club of Rotary International, the purpose of which is to provide community service, to encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and to help build goodwill and peace in the world. Stockholm International Rotary Club together with all of District 2350 also aims to promote integration in this context. Purpose Toward these ends, the Stockholm International Rotary Club of Rotary District 2350, Sweden (SIRC), has established a periodic award to one new citizen of Sweden, or child of a new citizen, who has significantly contributed to the betterment of her or his neighborhood/community/peer group and/or has promoted integration, within the Stockholm Metropolitan Area. The Award The Ron Pavellas Award for Community Service is a personal stipend of 10 000 SEK. The award is named in honor of Ron Pavellas, the founder of Stockholm International Rotary Club. Eligibility To be eligible for the award a candidate must be a person born in another country who has become a citizen of Sweden; or, a child of such a person, who must also be a citizen. There is no requirement for when either person became a citizen. The candidate must also be a resident within the Stockholm Metropolitan Area. Deadline Deadline for nominations is May 15, 2016. Awards ceremony All nominees will be invited to the awards ceremony to be held on June 9, 2016, where all nominees will be able to present posters about their projects/initiatives and have the opportunity to network.
Nomination of Candidates The person nominating a candidate for an award (the nominator) will support the nominated candidate in writing, in English or Swedish. The written nomination must contain the name, address, telephone number, and email address (if any) of both the nominator and the candidate. The written nomination should be attached to a covering email message to: SIRCronpavellasaward@gmail.com The written nomination should state the nature of the work the nominee has undertaken in a neighborhood/community/peer group within the Stockholm Metropolitan Area through voluntary initiatives and/or social entrepreneurship, and how this work has 1) promoted integration, 2) improved humanitarian and social services, 3) encouraged high ethical standards in one or more vocations, and/or 4) has promoted goodwill and peace. Other Guidance The nominator must be a member of a Rotary Club in District 2350. A nominee cannot be a member of a Rotary Club. There is no restriction on the familial relatedness or ages of nominators and nominees. No person may receive the award more than once. Guidance in Selection of the Awardee The Rotary motto: Service above self. Guidance in Publicity of the Award SIRC shall work in collaboration with Rotary International District 2350 in making the award known to all clubs in the district. SIRC shall make public announcements of the award and process three months before the stated award date, using as many communication media as can be prudently employed. The awardee must consent to any publicity SIRC may conduct regarding the award.
