Introduction This guide is intended to help end-users of all AACN E-Learning programs ensure their computer matches the technical specifications for optimal program function. Prior to accessing the LearnCenter, please follow the suggested steps below: 1) Review the technical requirements for each computer type, operating system, internet access speed, and security settings as listed on page 2 of this Guide. 2) Compare requirements to the computer that will be used for the program and make any necessary changes to that computer. 3) Update Flash Player files as indicated on page 12 of this Guide. 4) Confirm that the PDF Reader is installed properly and is the correct version. If it is not installed, refer to page 12 of this Guide for directions to download the Reader. Be sure to review the How to Use Your LearnCenter guide (available on the Get Help page of your LearnCenter) for more detailed information about program navigation and module assessments. Technical System Requirements for AACN E-Learning Internet browser: Internet Explorer 8+ (with v10 and 11 in Compatibility Mode) Latest versions of Chrome and Firefox Safari 5.1x (with Flash Player installed) Latest version of Flash player installed on all browsers Set privacy settings to medium or medium-high Set pop-up blocker to accept pop-ups in domains specified below (under Internet access) Accept third-party cookies and allow session cookies Enable JavaScript in the browser settings Enable HTTP version 1.1 in the browser settings CPU: 300Mhz or higher RAM: Internet access: 128MB AACN courses require high-bandwidth capacity Internet connectivity. They are not supported for use with a dial-up Internet connection. Allow these Domains: aacn.rivaetest.com aacn.learn.com aacn.taleo.net Internet protocol: TCP Port 80 - HTTP 1.1 TCP Port 443 - SSL Screen resolution: For Learners: 1024 x 768 or higher recommended (800 x 600 minimum). Sound card and speakers: Plug-ins: Required for most AACN courses Adobe Flash Player 6 or higher Adobe Acrobat PDF Reader 5 or higher Microsoft Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher Firewall/proxy/cache server settings: If a proxy server is used, HTTP 1.1 must be enabled on the proxy server, and the client browser be configured to use HTTP 1.1 through the proxy connection. Other network devices must also support version 1.1 of HTTP. Your network administrator will need to ensure clients' hosts can access domains listed above. Flash uses standard Web packets. In some proxy configurations, URL caching should be disabled or bypassed for the "rivaetest.com" domain. This configuration change is not required unless problems occur when using cached URLs. Email: To receive LearnCenter emails, all users must add the following email addresses to their safe sender list: e-learning@aacn.org elearninghelp@aacn.org IT Team Action: Add the following IP addresses. If your network has firewall or other access rules, you may need to revise the rules to whitelist the IP addresses associated with the LearnCenter s Oracle hardware platform, which are listed below. 1. aacn.learn.com (68.233.76.119) 2. aacn.learn.taleo.net (68.233.76.118) NOTE: Please do not disable IP addresses you currently have for the LearnCenter; you should augment that list with the new addresses. Internet Browser Options Temporary Cookies - Browsers must be set to accept temporary cookies, also known as per-session cookies. Temporary cookies are not stored on the computer s hard drive. Here are the steps for enabling temporary cookies: 1. Open Internet Explorer 2. Go to the Tools menu and choose Internet Options 3. Choose the Privacy tab and click on the Advanced button 4. to Always allow session cookies by marking the checkbox. If you do not choose these settings, your assessments will not run properly in the LearnCenter. 5. Pop Up Blockers - must sometimes be disabled in order to allow applications to load all pages and windows properly. There are many toolbar applications from many different software providers such as Yahoo and Google; in fact, there are too many for us to provide detailed instructions for all. Please refer to the appropriate documentation or contact your IT department if you require assistance in disabling pop up blockers for such applications. Here are the steps to disable pop up blocker functionality for Internet Explorer. As mentioned, you may need to disable pop up blockers for other applications. To disable Internet Explorer s pop up blocker function: 1. Go to the Tools menu and choose Internet Options 2. HTTP version 1.1 - must be enabled in the browser settings. 1. From the Tools menu on your browser, choose Internet Options 2. Go to the Advanced tab and enable HTTP 1.1 for both selections. Active X Controls need to be enabled to allow for certain functionality within the LearnCenter. To enable them: 1. From the Tools menu on your browser, choose Internet Options 2. Select the Security tab 3. Click on the Custom Level button 4. Enable the following options: Automatic prompting for ActiveX controls Download signed ActiveX controls Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting 5. Screen Resolution Screen resolution should be set to the maximum recommended settings of 1024 x 768, however, program content can been functionally viewed at the minimum setting of 800 x 600 if the maximum setting can not be attained. To adjust screen resolution: 1. Right click on your desktop and choose Screen resolution then select the Settings tab. 2. Sound card and Speakers Sound card and speakers are not required, though listed in the minimum system requirements document. Users viewing AACN E-Learning content are able to read the complete version of the narrated text as they work through curricula. If your computer is equipped with a sound card and speakers (or headphones) you are also able to listen to a narrator as you work through curricula.
